Thinking about buying Evochron Legends, but in the demo I can't get the joystick to get the Turn Left and Turn Right functions to work. When I use the keyboard, it works fine but when I set the button on the joystick, it doesn't work. Anyone know how to fix?

Thanks

You may need to describe the problem further. Turning left and right can be controlled by either axis input or button/key input. Which are you trying to use? With axis controls, you need to click on the option to map the axis channels, then follow the instructions. For button/key controls, you need to click on the option you want to map a new button/key to, then press that button or key.

Yeah im trying to map it to buttons. I go through the calibration setup which sets my Roll, Throttle and Pitch on the joystick.. then it asks for turn left/right and I click "No Axis Contol".. then i go into the device button layout, click Turn Right and press my button.. it appears to set it... click turn left, press my other button.. it appears to set it.. then in game, when i press those buttons, the craft seems to wander ever so slightly in the direction it should be turning outright.. with keyboard controls, it works fine.

Sounds like an axis control is still overriding the button input for some reason, even though that should still effect keyboard input as well. Are you using the latest build (1.228)? Is your flight control mode set to joystick? I just tested it with my X52 setup and using buttons works just as well as keys do, so it may either be the control mode or a legacy issue from an older build.

Have you tried remapping the turn left/right to different keyboard keys to check if the joystick is the problem?

You sure you've set it to turn right/left and not inertial right/left?

What kind of joystick are you using? Does it have sensitivity settings and dead zone settings in its own control editor?

Does your joystick have a twist action? also do you have a game profile editor for your joystick so you can set it up for different games..? If so, check those settings for the twist action and button asignment....Hope this might help...;)

I can't understand why you should want to map right/left turn to a button! Why not just use the joystick as normal, surely your joystick doesn't just do up and down?

Logitech Attack 3

No, the joystick does not have a twist axis.

Left/Right on the stick does Roll left and right.
Up/Down on the stick does pitch up and down.
Throttle on the stick does throttle.

No more axes. Turn(Yaw) left and right is left to buttons. works fine in Hawx.

Yes I have a profiler, i can get full flight control if i set the game up in keyboard mode and simply map everything, but then i lose the precision of axes.

Unless the device itself is somehow returning an intermittent button signal rather than a consistent one (or one of the issues above I mentioned applies), there's not really a way for the game to react the way you've described. It applies full input response, which is only on or off with a button/key, when full input response is received (basically only 0 or 1). Can you post a screen shot of the axis configuration screen and the key mapping screen? Maybe then we can pin down a possible cause. Also, are you clicking on the option to save your axis bindings once it's finished and you've made changes?

Since you do not have a twist axis, You can not asign the left and right yaw to an axis. I think your only option is to asign the left and right arrow keys for yaw to your joystick and make sure you create a seperate profile for Legends do not use the Hawx profile..Because the Hawx profile might read the left arow and right arrow key from the keyboard as roll...I do not have a Logitech, I have a Saitek X52...I'm sure there are other players that use a Logitech and they might be able to help you better....;)

I use the Logitech 3D Pro, no problems. Setting it up, within the game, I use the following settings: 1 2 4 3 - the only thing I can't set up is straffing. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the game, and the forum.

*pulls out hair*

lol

Ok.

Not trying to assign the left/right movements to an axis. I'm assigning them to buttons because i dont have any free axes.

Not using the Hawx profile for Evochron. I don't even have a Hawx profile as I dont need one - it has full joystick support.

Assign joystick buttons to turn left/right... when i end up pressing these buttons, the craft starts to slowly drift off in a random direction.. instead of turning. When i set the same actions to keyboard keys in keyboard mode, it works fine. Ive mapped it to many keys to make sure.

Looks good to me. As far as I can recall, this is the first occurance of such a control issue with a Logitech (and a lot of players use Logitech controllers). Must be something device/system specific. Try this next. Switch the control mode over to Keyboard or Mouse, then test the buttons again. If the response is the way it's supposed to be with the control mode set to Keyboard or Mouse, then the device may be somehow improperly returning a signal that is centering an axis control.

When i switch the game over to Keyboard control, everything works fine.

But at the same time, I know for a fact that my joystick itself is working just fine. It's been tested in the driver setup, and in a couple other games.

Do you use profiling software? If so, is there a default or resident profile that may be applying unwanted control input?

no i dont use profiling software for this setup. I turn it off when im trying the game in "joystick" mode.

I can run the game just fine in "keyboard" mode using my profiler to map the joystick to the keys/directions, but like i said before i don't like doing this because i lose the precision of the axes.

With the axis control menu open as in the screenshot above, do any of the axis channels move when you push either the left or right turn button?

You can use profile software along with setting the axis up in game. I have my x52 pro mapped to all the default keyboard keys in profiler software, but the pitch/turn/roll and thrust axis mapped in-game. Even when joystick mode is selected keyboard input works. You will not lose the axis precision if you map it this way.

yeah but when im in 'joystick' mode, the keyboard controls for movement do not work.. even on the keyboard. So mapping my joystick to keys that aren't doing anything doesn't help.

to clarify: The Left and Right arrow keys turn my craft as needed, while im in Keyboard mode. However, when i switch over to "Joystick" mode, the left and right arrows do NOTHING. Therefore, mapping my joystick to them does nothing.
