Hi all,
Where can i find a bigger ship?
How many credits are we talking?
How can i venture out of sapphire without getting blown to bits?
Sorry, three questions.
I'm really enjoying playing this game, just doing mining in the basic talon frame. Is there a way of playing this game on a "non combat" basis? It said you could if thats what you want to do. I just want to explore and trade. But i want a bigger ship.
Ste.

Travel to a system that offers what you want. Observe the economic quadrant map to spot locations with higher levels of technology which will offer better ships.Where can i find a bigger ship?
Depends on the location, what you want, and your wealth. Plan on anywhere from a few hundred thousands to several million. How many credits are we talking?
Travel to a lower risk system first, such as Olympus. Then don't engage in combat unless you're confident you can win. Use high speed drifting if you don't want to engage in combat and complete transactions quickly. If the area is dangerous, move on to another nearby location that may not have as many threats nearby. How can i venture out of sapphire without getting blown to bits?
Sure, but you'll need to stick with non-combat objectives and avoid combat in areas that have higher hostility. If you want to play entirely defensively, you'll need to work toward equipping your ship for that role. Get a big fuel tank, keep a fast ship with a larger cargo bay, grab a stealth generator when you can, install class 5 shield boosters and keep power set to the shield arrays, learn how to control your ship at very high speeds and how to trade quickly, etc, etc.Is there a way of playing this game on a "non combat" basis?

Thanx alot for that valuable guide vice.
I don't engage myself in combat, they just pick on me. lol.
I'm not sure what you mean by drifting though. Also i don't know how to keep power set to shield arrays.

Oh, i just saw on my keyboard layout the "[" symbol. It says Shield energy. Do i just press this once, or does it increase my shield energy?

Press it to change the amount one unit per press so if you start with shield and energy at zero then one press of added shield = +1 which will make the energy setting -1.

If you turn off the IDS (space bar), you can drift at high speed (use afterburner and thruster controls to adjust).I'm not sure what you mean by drifting though. Also i don't know how to keep power set to shield arrays.
It's a bias setting, you can set it to whatever value you like. +5 to S (shields) will provide maximum power to the arrays.Oh, i just saw on my keyboard layout the "[" symbol. It says Shield energy. Do i just press this once, or does it increase my shield energy?

You probably won't want to keep it set to 5/-5 all the time though, when yer traveling through gates you might actually want to set it to -5/5 (full weapons) since the fulcrum drive uses that to jump meaning you'll jump faster.
When going through the gate you'll notice like any other jump you come out of it at a high speed and in roughly 97% of cases, even if other ships fling missiles they can't touch you if you turn off IDS. All sorts of things to think of really...
If yer going to play defensively, you might be interested to know that there is a reverse thruster and that it works with the afterburner much like going forwards. I have a bad habit of turning off IDS and afterburning backwards while I spin around to shoot down missiles since I forget to use countermeasures.
You might benefit from learning some combat related manuveurs once you get used to the game more. Even if you plan to not really get into combat if you get in a sticky spot some basic things like how to move manually at high speeds could possibly save you from watching some rather annoying fireworks. Namely your own.

Hi Ste,
If you're in MP and you want to do some mining/shopping in a more hostile system feel free to ask another player for some fighter protection. There are many trigger-happy players who would be happy to help you out by keeping reds at bay! I'm normally more of an explorer but if I'm in my military frame give me a shout and I'll nip over to your location to provide you with a military escort.
