Jettison Cargo Contract

Post by JonathanEngr »

Okay--I can't seem to figure out how to do this contract. I accept it, get stuff in my cargo and warp over to the drop point. There *are* ships there, but they don't communicate. If I try to go to one, it "missile locks" on them (is there a way to avoid this), and I can't get close enough to any ship to make a drop--even using afterburners they keep at least 1000 units away from me. I'm sure it's something simple... any suggestions?

Before you jump from the station to your nav point make sure that you face Zero on your compass and also make sure your pitch is set to zero then click F2 to jump and you will come out right in front of your ship that will accept the cargo....fly directly under the ship and about the middle of the ship jettison your cargo.....note if you have any thing else in your cargo hold it will jettison also if you press the "J" key....open with F3 key and left click on the cargo your suppose to drop.

 I always dive under the target ship (if the "locked" indication makes you nervous, try cycling to another target or turning off your MDTS) and climb back up near its bow. The further back you are, the less likely you'll be able to jettison the cargo. If you wind up behind the ship, dive and use afterburner until you can see its midsection in your top view ("Home" key, I think, is default) ... then climb back up.

I usually set the Y coordinate to about -500 of what is indicated, so I just glide underneath and smile as I pass by, dropping the cargo when the range to the capital ship shows less than 750.

Remember, you have to pretty much fly between the lower fins of the cruiser to get close enough. If you get too close, you'll get stopped by the shields and plugged at by the reds who are waiting for you. If you fly too far, you'll have to circle back (or re-work the coords and jump again).

You can (in theory) also select a specific cargo port to jetison. This was fixed in an earlier version. However, to do this, you have to have your cargo manifest console open, which makes it hard to see stuff.:D
