help with x 52 flight stick...i checked the forums 1st

Post by USMChardcharger »

I joined a few years ago and fell off the radar. I was new to online gaming at the time and did not try renagades online. im trying legends and im also ready to try online. however im having trouble getting my x52 to work. at first i could not log on to my old log in...but vice helped me with that. i took the chance to ask him for help on my x52. here is my last response to him by email...hopefully it will shed light to my troubles to anyone with the answer:

...First of all, you are one of a kind. Thanks for your quick response Vice...the same as i encountered 2-3 yrs ago. i will give you links to the places i checked in the forums that resembled my trouble.
StarWraith 3D Games Forum / Technical Support / Controller 2 (evochron legends)

but this is what i seem to be experiencing...StarWraith 3D Games Forum / Technical Support / X52 Problem

eclipse gives the answer that solves the problem...but his post "seems" to be simple and not very descriptive...i don't understand how the poster understood his response. (because i would need a more step by step type of help...nothing wrong with eclipse's response)

ok, here is some breakdown info from me...vista 64, legends,x52, device1...two confirmed responses from the dails on the throttle stick, device two...confirmed responses from the maneuver controls (flight stick). (seems it is dividing my x52 sticks into two devices instead of one. the flight stick will not move my ship...if i press the button under the fire trigger(pinky finger on the flight stick...ship will spin. flight controlls reponded on the config screen, device two)

are there still people playing the multiplayer for legends...just tried to find a game with alliance since my controller still works with it. no one playing though...i was nervous to try online a few years back, but now i am ready to give it a try...

thanks Vice

anyone please help. i know computers...but computer gaming is somewhat new.

The thread you're referring to ( http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5543 ) relates to the user having plugged in another control device in addition to the X52, so he had two devices configured for his system. Any time you have more than one, you can use the '>>>' arrows at the top of the Configure Controls menu to swap devices and bind what you want from them. Some devices provide input as one device, some provide input as 2 or 3 (rudder pedals + stick + throttle for example). As you are setting up your axis controls and/or button controls, just use those arrows at the top to select which device you want to map the selected function to. Doesn't matter if it's one device or seven, the game supports simultaneous multiple control devices.

i have used the '>>>' to move to device1 and 2 (nothing else is plugged in btw). maybe i don't understand how to make which ever one i select the one the games uses.

here is what i m seeing...
i go to config control screen...device1 is shown 1st by default i guess. when i press and move all the buttons and directions on the flight stick and throttle stick i only get two responses...

they come from the throttle stick...it is two of the spinning dails

when i select device2 and move and press all the buttons and directions, i finally get reponses from the pitch, roll, ect.

maybe it is the binding im not doing right. i try highlighting an axis on device1 to bind and move the flight stick but nothing happens.

when im in game...no matter what i have selected in the config controls. if i have even selected right...nothing moves my ship except the pinky button on the flight stick part of the x52...it spins me

it seems that the game has made 1/8 of the throttle controller device1 and the rest of the throttle controller and all of the stick controlls, except the pinky button, are device2.

it is like the game has split my x52 into two devices...just not all of it...most of the controlls seem to be under device2

Interesting, that's not a scenario I'm familiar with. Haven't really heard of an X52 being split into multiple devices (and a lot of players around here use X52's). Are you using any profiling software?

Technically though, it wouldn't really matter. You can pick and choose whatever inputs you want to use from whatever devices the game detects, whether that's 2 devices or 5.
maybe it is the binding im not doing right. i try highlighting an axis on device1 to bind and move the flight stick but nothing happens.
That may be part of it. You need to click on the button below those axis indicators that says '>>>'. Then the game will walk you through mapping each flight control with an axis channel. For example, when the game prompts you to select the axis channel you want to use for pitch, select device you want to use with the arrows at the top of the screen, then click on the axis channel that responds to your input and is the one you want to use for the prompted pitch flight control. The game will prompt you to select an axis for each additional flight control, just select the device and axis channel you want to use for each of them. You can do the same for buttons.

in my defence, i m on a hdtv set and the lettering was hard to read. i did not notice the directions that the game config was giving me.

thank you so much Vice...cant wait to try Legends out. Im sure I will be buying it too. hard not to support a developer like you..game on

ps...are people still active on multiplayer or have i missed the boat...is voice chat supported...how does that work

Hi USM Chardcharger,
There are still a few servers available for Evochron Legends. None of the older games has a dedicated server at this time.
I understand there is a Legends server that offers voice chat if you use "Teamspeak".
Btw, I too use an HDTV and lettering at the edges is sometimes missing, but what's there, is legible. Perhaps you should consider another resolution to be able to read better.
Good Luck and hope to see you in MP soon.

USMCC

Welcome back.

IckleChesh and I use the BA teamspeak server. Seems stable enough. It does go down occassionally, but that is due, I think to the Windows updates that happen occassionally.

Anyway see you out there sometime.
