How do you unlock more ship frames?

Hello headshoothoncho, welcome to the forum and the Sim. You buy Civie ships and you have to complete missions in the war zones to earn Military rank that unlocks Military ships. If you see a Civie ship that is darked out it means it is not available in the area. See you out there sometime.
