I would please like to ask a few questions about playing on- line:

1. When you come into a game for the first time is your ratings, cash, equipment, etc. the same as you have off-line?

2. Do I need to be careful not to enter without being invited or are you automatically blocked if it is private, ie, not need to worry about being an unwelcome intrusion?

3. What might I expect when I first enter (location, circumstance, etc.)?

Thanks. Any other helpful info welcomed!

the answers to you questions in order
1. if you have played single player you start where you left off with ranks and etc.
2. only two servers (at last check) are running both are open to anyone, Babylon 5 is a no rules server so expect to be killed by anyone at any time (won't happen to much unless romulan or some other newb killers are on.)
3. like number one you left off where you last saved the game.

also Babylon 5 is the most popular server because it talks to you. :D

Hi chilong! I don't think I have welcomed you yet, so welcome to EL and the forums!

Everything you did in SP is saved and transferred to MP, including cash, equipment, ratings, and location. Reputation is the same as the default universe and your circumstance is reset (e.g. you won't have a missile coming at you if you saved with a missile coming at you).

For the most part, the transition between MP and SP is completely seamless.

Yep, there are no different unsuspected surprises they are the same in Single player.
With exception of the newplayer killers for some it is a ritual like a welcome party...LOL:P:P:P:P:P

 Just as a note ... sometimes you'll be attacked by accident. This is because, when you're pointed at another player, your computer system (MOTS) locks the guy you're pointed at. Ergo, if your fingers do the walking ... and they take a rest while over the wrong key ... a missile is fired (or, in the case of Excalibur, many missiles are fired) in your direction. Unintentionally, of course.

If it's you that makes the mistake, just announce it as a mistake. Most other pilots will do likewise. No need to log off or go hide in some other sector of the galaxy, brow-beating yourself about the head and backside (yeah, and brow).

Same goes for when you join a group contract (one of the best things about MP is group contracts). If you accidently hit the capital ship you're supposed to be defending, it will turn red ... not a good situation. Nonetheless, it happens. Even to the veterans.

Being a newbie myself, I have to tell you that you learn something new everytime you play MP. The people I've run into have been really helpful sometimes they will bend over backwards to help a new pilot (Tks Starbuck, Paladin,Babylon5, KickinAssAngel). You really learn that there is more to the game than you imagined.

Thanks for answering my questions.

I have another:

How do you communicate with each other? Is it pretty self-evident? I haven't used chat rooms, instant messenger, etc., so I'm real ignotrant about that kind of thing. To makle matters worse, I'm a very slow typer. I suppose if necessary, I could try a speech recognition program but n ot ready to go to that extreme yet.

 If you don't have a microphone, you can use the built-in game chat function. Just press the "Enter" key to open a chat box ... it will appear near the lower-left corner of your screen. Then type in your message. Be advised that typing wihout first opening the chat box can really mess up your day.

Else, if you do have a mike, download TeamSpeak. At least two clans/guilds operate TS servers on a 24-hour basis.
