:o I did a bit of refueling in MP tonight. For every 30 units I passed along to Raven, he received only 20 units. That's a 33% gas tax! Either that or all my fuel containers have a leak in them.

Might be a glitch. The person receiving fuel might have set his transfer to 20 units last time he transfered fuel with the profile he was using and yours was set to transfer 30 so he receives only the amount set on the receiving end.:(

Not as far as I know - my fuel transfer rate has always been 30 units - and was set at 30 during the transfers. Marvin was a hero last night - it wasn't just one transfer, it was multi transfers, for which I am most grateful.

I was heading out to Rift space, with [SD]Trip - initially I gave the wrong co-ords, missed out the first minus! Then Trip ran out of fuel, and I doubled back to refuel him, intending to do the refuel, F7, and return to my last save. Unfortunately, after the F7 I returned to the same spot that I'd just left, fuel-less! Dummy! I should have exited without saving, and then returned. That was when Marvin volunteered, with a couple of others, to refuel me.

Aside from the refueling problem, I've found out that if you completely run out of fuel, you go into inertial mode, and can't get out of it, which makes meeting up with a refueling vehicle a tad difficult. Fun and games!

There were other anomalies last night. On my first two missions; on arrival at the WP there was nothing there, zilch, nada.

I am very grateful for the refueling Ravenfeeder! Never experienced that before. Currently, I am floating somewhere out where you left me but I think I will point the ship towards the coords, turn off IDS and let 'er rip while I sit back and wait. At least I can get some distance while waiting for another refuel.
Sorry, it caused you to run out as well.

No probs Trip, I'll be on tonight, and if no-one else has refuelled you, I'll do it with pleasure; as the actress said to the Bishop! :)

I have never transferred fuel to or from another ship. I'm not even sure how you would do it, since, when I've opened the trade channel, I only see cargo and cash available for trade.

As for moving, I don't know if that's a good idea. If you're not planning to go all the way to your destination by coasting, then someone is going to have to come out and refuel you, which means that if you're moving at 4K, they won't be able to catch up.

Of course, in REAL space, you could move, and people coming to help would just have to match your speed, but the game doesn't work that way. 4K is about maxiumum, and if you're going that fast, than anyone trying to help you is not going to be able to catch you unless they jump pretty much on top of your position, facing the same direction, which is nigh impossible.

Really difficult but I have couple of ideas. What happens If one pilot bumps him. It seems only cure for him, but yes, difficult.

And I know another cure called Vice :P:P:P:P

Actually Nigel, it's a piece of cake.
There is a key for "match speed" and jumping into your sector ahead of you should be easy for any experienced pilot.

 I tried bumping Raven two or three times. Each time, we bounced off one another, maintaining speed. I then had to use A/B to catch him again. As for matching speed ... I knew the option existed but I couldn't remember which key. And how do you go about adjusting the amount of fuel for transfer?

;) Btw, Raven ... every time you transfer fuel, you get a message saying the game has been saved. Ergo, you can't exit without saving and expect to have a full load of gas. Otherwise, I would've done that myself!

yeah, Marvin forgot abt the saving thingy on fuel transfers. I finally got Trip fueled up and into Sol, took about 6 round trips to do it. On a Mantis drive I was getting down as low as one sector jump per time. I'm going to reload the programme see if it makes any difference. It normaly only takes between 700-800 units of fuel to get to Rift Space - I was struggling with 3999, and refuelling Trig on the minus 10 fuel units per transfer.

Still, Trig has finally gotten through the gate, and the starpoint, and is happily making enough dosh to get his windscreen cleaned.

Cheers mate, you were a real Prince last night.

Every exchange made between players leads to a save....otherwise you could duplicate items at your leisures.

As for the in flight refuelling, just use the same procedure that today's military use......formation flight. We have an automated option and we don't need to center the muzzle..... ;-)

Just get in Nav comp and click form with the target selected.

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Ravenfeeder for sticking with me! If it wasn't for him I would probably still be hurtling through the vast emptiness on inertial trying to reach rift space!

Formation flying doesn't get the ships close enough to let you trade fuel. It isn't like rendezvousing (if that's a word) with a KC-135 (or whatever they're using these days). Not that the real thing is easy ... "up one, back two" ... in fact, now that I think about it, on-line refueling is a lot less dangerous.
