From the readme:
The Swallow was designed by EvoSol Dynamics primarily as a scout and explorer craft for the Alliance military. The ship was designed around the Observation cockpit designed in a joint venture between EvoSol and United Electronics Corporation. The Swallow is designed with a completely glazed canopy by utilizing the unique armored glass material used in the Evoch-C. This affords the pilot both superior protection and un-surpassed visibility.
The Swallow was christened after the Earth bird of the same name that has been introduced to many of Evochron's worlds. The ship is so named because its shape roughly mimics that of the bird's. The Swallow is uniquely designed with downward-drooping wings and a prominently jutting cockpit.
@warsign
I added another link, try that. Hopefully that one works. I had a little trouble with my hosting site last night and had to find an alternate.
@MMaggio
Yeah, I would have liked to offer a transparent canopy, but alpha channels cannot be manually created, so I would have had to have no canopy at all for transparency. This would have looked weird and the cockpit object would have greatly increased the polycount.
@Maarschalk
Lol! When Dark Helmet hears about your comment, you can be sure you will be his first target.
So.... what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

@Eclipse
Me too. We are starting to see a nice variety of ships and there are now a few good cockpits out there. With warsign's nicely-done large pack of ships and cockpits, there is a nice variety of options and there are almost enough cockpits for each frame to have a different one.
@Wasp
Uh.....10, maybe 15 knots? Good thing I wasn't going for speed when I designed the ship
@warsign
Thanks for letting me know about the links. My hosting site seems to be working this morning, so I will revert back to it again.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I hope you all enjoy using the mod as much as I enjoyed making it
Nice-looking ship, Accountant. Thanks for the work.
Yes, I'm happy to see the new add-ons by dedicated modelers. I am also hopeful for different cockpits for each milspec frame.
In the future, it would be cool to have different cockpits for the civvy frames as well. Maybe there will be a game update to allow this... (plug plug).
Also, I would like some pointers on cockpit creation. I have already done a couple ship models but I haven't done a pit, and I don't know where to begin. I have tried loading cockpits into TrueSpace, but I don't see anything when I do, so I don't know how to orient, scale, or do anything to make them work with the MFDs.
In particular, I want to make custom pits for the ships that I designed.
@Nigel
All of my cockpits include the metaseq source files. You need metaseqouia to open them, but it is a free download. You should be able to save in other formats that are hopefully compatible with Truespace. The links are in the readme of every one of my mods.
Getting the MFDs right are a trial-and-error process. I started out by creating a very basic model of where the MFDs go, loaded it up in EL, and did the proper moving/scaling/rotating to get the MFDs where I needed them. After that, it was a matter of building the cockpit around the MFDs. If you want to know where to begin, create 3 faces for the 3 MFDs, get their position correct, then build the cockpit once the position is right.
Btw, when I say glazing, I mean that the entire canopy is transparent, as opposed to having struts and support structures. Maybe glazing is the wrong word, but I thought it referred to the transparent materials?
Probably the correct word ... appropriate, anyway. The only thing missing is the "mirror" finish that would show up on the outside (assuming it worked the same way as Tom Corbett's visor).
Unfortunately I am limited on my color choice by the default textures, and the default textures do not seem to have gold anywhere on them. Otherwise, I would probably do that.
... the default textures do not seem to have gold anywhere on them.
Yes they do. It's used for trim on most all the civvy ships. Well, it actually has a more copper color ... but that should be close enough. (Btw, pay no attention to the post I made in another thread concerning the shape of your canopy. I just noticed that it does extend below the midpoint.)
For civvy ships, yes, but I do not think that trim is present on military ships, and because my ship is a military ship it can only use the military ship texture.

EDIT:
Lol, just saw your comment about the canopy shape (I was wondering what you were talking about ). No worries, thanks for being so concerned about my humble mod
Ship Looks Awesome Accountant.....Good to have seen you online earlier
