Fly by view?

Hi all, just bought this game the other day, have never played games of this genre before, so its a steep learning curve for me.. Anyway, just one question at moment,. I can't get the fly by view to work. Its supposed to be / but when i press it, nothing happens. Anyone know why? I'm in external view when i do press /.

Hi stevee620, welcome to the forum and the Sim. I must say that I have not used the "fly by" function but stand by as someone with better knowledge will be by soon. See you out there sometime.

Hi, thanx for the welcomes:) Tried \\ that doesn't work either. Let me get this straight, do i press v to go to external view and then press \\ ? thats what i'm doing, but it don't fly by.

No use of the "V" key is needed. "\" key works on my laptop and "alt"+"\" key combo gives a closer view. Look at your key bindings for the "fly by" function and see what key is bound to it if any. Good luck.

You might have reasigned or unasigned the Key binding.

It's a key somewhere near the "Enter" key ... 'cause I'm always accidently hitting it while chatting in MP. Very disconcerting. Especially during battle.

Thanx for all your replies, specially Marvin, you were bang on. I tried what on my keyboard is the hash key, and it worked. Strangely when i tried to enter the hash key in this message, the / came up.................wierd. I know that my keyboard is set to a USA one, and i can change that. maybe thats the problem.

In U.S. military lingo, the "/" is usually called a slash and the "\\" is usually called a back-slash.

yh, when you have the keyboard set to a diferent locality than it was intended for, keys can get mixed up... i for one had to rebind my sheild/ armour controlls as ] on the keyboard was [ ingame and # on the keyboard is ] ingame lol

There is another cam function, really good called cinematic camera view (alt-\\), better imo to see your ship closer.
