n00b question

Post by Mad Mike »

I downloaded the game last week and ran a pilot around to get the feel of the game.

I started a new pilot and am working the beacon quest and have my saber but I only have 2 equipment slots.

Do I need to be a higher rating then novice (50) to get all 5 or do I need a bigger ship?

I cannot remember from the first pilot game.

Thanks

Hi Mad Mike. Welcome aboard.

You don't need higher rating, you need money to buy a bigger frames for additional slots.

You need "higher military rating" to buy better military ships. Probably early stage for you just for now.

See you in Mp out there in space. :)

Greetings Sir Warsign, I'm honored,

Well, to tell the truth, I did just that and had a Hunter frame but with minimal rank and still only had 2 equip. slots. Thats why I thought it had something to do with rating.

all the ships have 5 equipment slots :)
though some of the smaller ships only have space for 2-4 missiles rather than the max of 8.

oh BTW we have a MM here already, this is gonna get confusing ....................

Yes, my bad sorry.
I thought missile slots, you are talking about equipment slots.
Yes, for eq slots, you need better rating.

If you got 5 eq slots, you can use them on every ship.

Rank and rating is different things by the way. Rank is releated to military missions in war zones.

Verbosity,
copy on the MM.

Warsign,
Copy on the rating, any idea what it takes?

Also I'm having major problems with your hud mod instillation. I down loaded and copied the files to the hud folder in the customizing kit and restarted with a 'test pilot' and no changes.

From the strategy guide http://starfighter.home.att.net/evochro ... lguide.htm

Military and Civilian Ranks

Your performance as a mercenary is tracked with two ranking systems. The first is your civilian skill and proficiency rank. This rank is a combination of your contract completion record/achievements, kills, wealth, and equipment acquired. When you earn a higher rank, you command a higher fee for your services, so you'll see your pay start to climb as your reputation for completing contracts improves. Failing or canceling contracts can prevent your rank from increasing. You generally receive about one point of rank credit for every 10 hostile ships you destroy, one for every contract you successfully complete, one for every 500K of credits you acquire, then further adjustments are made based on other wealth factors and the ship you are currently flying. Your rank level is then established from how many points you've earned and here is a chart showing each level:

Rookie 0-24
Novice 25-99
Competant 100-499
Skilled 500-999
Advanced 1000-1999
Expert 2000-2999
Master 3000-4999
Superior 5000-7499
Veteran 7500-9998
Legend >9998

The next is your military rank. This rank tracks your military combat record for missions completed in war zones. The more missions you complete for the Alliance, the higher your military rank will be. A higher military rank gives you access to more advanced military spacecraft. Below is a chart showing the number of missions needed for each rank:

Trainee 0-4
Ensign 5-24
Lieutenant Jr. Grade 25-49
Lieutenant 50-99
Lieutenant Commander 100-149
Commander 150-249
Captain 250-499
Commodore 500-749
Admiral 750-998
Fleet Admiral >998

Also I'm having major problems with your hud mod instillation. I down loaded and copied the files to the hud folder in the customizing kit and restarted with a 'test pilot' and no changes.
There must be one "hud" folder and files in this folder. If you created a folder called hud then copy my mod in it, It would be like hud/hudevochv/...... or something, doesn't work. :) There must be no another folder under hud folder. Only files... If you want to use more cockpit mod, rename your existing "hud" folder like "hudEvochV" then create another "hud" folder then restart your game. You can change your cockpits like this easly or returning default cockpit.

Or you can load multiple cockpits to multiple ships. They load automatically when you changed your ship. Download "customizing kit" for details.

Nope, I just right clicked, copied and pasted all the images and .dat, .x ..etc in the orginal hud folder and replace what was there with your mods, after backing up of course.
The folder is in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Indie Games\\Evochron Legends\\Customizing Kit\\Hud
This is where Impulse put it, I'm assuming it's the right spot.

Sorry Warsign, I hope you didn't type all that out just for me. I did look at that and was hoping 'Novice' got a few more slots.

Put "hud" folder in the main folder of Evochron Legends, not into customizing kit :) Must be:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Indie Games\\Evochron Legends\\Hud

Also I edited my earlier post, pls read it again (last part about mods)

I am still waiting, If you can, try your new cockpit. It will work!

Copied all files in the "hud" folder. Are you sure?
I think It is a gpu issue...

And please go to "option" menu and do "3d cockpit on" and "cockpit type: full"

I didn't see such a problem. I guess It is releated to your graphic settings.

OK, I got the cockpit but the starfield is white half screen to the top of the cockpit consol and to the edges of my laptop screen. If I F10 and look around the starfield is there on the sides. Also the target panel on the right, the target sphere is not quite centered.

This is with the full setting.

Sorry Warsign, I had to take a nap.

I just downloaded 1.158 before getting on the forum.

Q: if your not to put the mods in the hud folder in the customizing kit, why doesn't that folder already exist in the Evochron Legends folder?

Ok, tried that, no changes. That is it launched in the default mode with struts.

I even just tried to change the compass and it still gave me that half white screen.

Path C:\\Program Files(x86)\\Indie Games\\Evochron Legends\\Hud

Hey mad mike just download the installer off of this site and then you will be able to use mods for the game, that is what i did and it works fine. The unlock code you got from impulse works for the installer from this site. Hope this helps.

SDWeimer,

Exactly what/which installer and where? I tried to download Vices customizing kit but the link didn't work.

Remember, I'm a n00b but I've modded other games and am at a loss as to what do here.

Aside; I have crew change on my ship in 2 1/2 hours so time to ck out and go get drunk for a few days then I'll ck back in.

Thanks all for the patience and advice.

@ Mad Mike sorry to confuse you but I was in your shoes once with the impulse version of evochron, was very frustrated when I couldn't get mods to work. but when Vice made mandatory upgrades for MP I found out that Impulses version does not allow for some reason the use of mods. Extra special thanks to Vice for making me upgrade.
