Stealth Questions
*** Possible Spoilers ***
The normal Stealth field you mount in a missle slot is easy enough to understand but now I've also found a Stealth Generator which mounts in a Equipment slot.
Through some searching in the forums I'm getting the impression that the equipment mounted generator is a stealth detection device? Is that right? If not, how do I activate/use it?

I like sneaky!
Though it is annoying that you can't use Excal's with the Stealth Device (As opposed to generator)
However with the generator you can't engage it then jump. nor can you activate it just after jumping. So if you intend to jump and kill someone... they're going to at least see you for a little bit before you stealth.

Stealth Questions
Sounds like we have some Pilots who are getting some good results with their Stealth Device. I'm currently using the Stealth Generator. I like to know which Stealth Device Pilots seem to favor the most, and why?

I like the Generator better. The stealth devices you constantly have to buy and can not use it with excalbur and have a one time use per device.

While we're on the subject of stealth...
I think it would be cool if you could turn your engines off, and you lose engine control/hud - but you do not show up on radar. This could be used for sneak attacks where enemies have to rely on visual detection as well as a way of escaping/evading an enemy without jumping away. Then it would take like 30 seconds or so to start your ship up again, this would make it risky so you are not using it all the time.

Certainly seems like the generator is the way to go. But so far I haven't found a use for one. I got through the Vonari system without it and don't see that either stealth device would last long enough to make a decent sized trek through dangerous space. Perhaps it's more widely used in multiplayer?
Right now I don't have room for it an equipment slot either as I've got these 5 essential items which I don't want to part with.
Cannon Relay System
Mantis Jump Drive
Repair System C3
Mining Tractor Beam
Sheild Boost X5
If I had to use the generator I'd swap it out for the repair or sheild boost but again I haven't found a good use for it yet.

I am an advocate for longer Stealth Use. My Generator is more a trophy piece then anything else. I was just curious to find out, if anyone really got any worth while use from it in it's current state?

It comes in handy in spy missions. You can also use it to block another ship in PvP, or sneak up on one. Handy too if you're trying to get off a planet which is infested with Red ships. I wonder, too, if you could use it to land on earth!!

the shield boost is a vital piece of equipment, the repair sys good for saving you cash, in prolonged battles and in the depths of space. I'd swap out the mining/tractor beam if in a military ship, or possibly the cannon relay system if planning a few PvP skirmishes.Originally posted by Wedge598

I get a lot of use out of my generator. I have done a bit of testing and come to the conclusion that if you have your energy preference set to +5 S -5 E your restealth time is ~15 seconds. Meaning your shield will recharge in 15 seconds and you can restealth.
I don't know of any person or npc that can close any reasonable amount of distance in the amount of time you can reactivate it. Npc's certainly can't. Players might be able to if they're flying at 4k+
I am also not 100% sure but I am pretty sure the generator actually uses a percentage of your energy rather than a flat amount. So if you have the cannon relay system to try to squeeze extra time out of it... it won't work. Most you can do from what I have tested is minimize it's downtime which yea +5 shield seems to be the best method of doing that due to it requiring full shield power to engage.
Unless you're up against a player that is pretty... unaware or you pretend to be nice then jump them... I can't imagine your stealth generator really helping you in pvp considering anyone who doesn't want to fight will probably just jump away. I know I would. And I don't know that the time you can stay stealthed would be enough to close the distance and attack anyone.

Good points TGS. However when you unstealth close enough to your enemy it takes a short time to have enough energy to fire your missiles at point blank range. But it takes practice to get close and unstealth at the right moment and it might take only 3 seconds or less to fire your missiles.
