game suggestion: arvoch style jump drives

In Arvoch you had a built in jump drive system that gave a huge boost in speed for a short period ( with some minor shield and energy penalties), I for one think this would be a useful piece of equipment with various tactical possibilities

EDIT
as an afterthought, maybe a spectral analyzer, you could use it to selectively mine ( scan an asteroid to see which minerals it contains), this could also be done in nebulae ( for alcohol, and other trace elements / organic compunds ) ?

As far as the "quick boost" speed drive I'd have to honestly ask.... why? Aside from making short "jumps" easier by eliminating the need to open up the nav screen I really don't see much usefulness in this.

Though thinking about it more after the fact I could see it being very problematic on a tactical level. IE in combat.

I already do short jumps whenever I need to.

As far as a spectral analyzer that'd be pretty cool. Would add some needed depth to the game. Although I worry that as awesome as it would be. It would be rather pointless because say you have 5-10 "elements" within a region you're analyzing... well that's great you might get any of them when you start mining so the knowledge of what is there isn't really going to help you a great deal.

I think an ability to select a distance of your choice to jump in the direction you face without the nav screen would be great but maybe impossible :(.

Now THAT I would love to see. Though I can't really see it being that impossible. Hell there could be a "preset" distance in the nav screen for the "alt-f2" jump. Instead of simply "max jump distance"

I would also find that to be incredibly useful, and have wished that it could be done, and have considered posting it here as an idea.

Granted, it would make certain things perhaps a bit too easy, such as finding containers (though you'd have to be careful not to jump into them!)

It would also be nice for quickly getting to a battle you can see off in the distance when given inaccurate coordinates for a mission.

I'd love it. Personally, I think it would add some combat possibilities. I really miss the possility to "Blink" forward.

The idea of the spectral analyzer sounds really cool, I'd love to see that.

Not too familiar with navigation yet to have any useful input on the "blinking" idea

Oh, as an afterthought, I'm not really fond of the spectral analyzer. I still prefer that players just 'try'.
