my only question at the moment, is have played hour and half through demo before buying it, and have been jumping around sapphire..
my question is how do get to another system... (sorry noobie question) but haven't quite figured out the nav map properly yet...

Yes game is new Elite, many people are thinking in the same way.
In order to go to another system, press F1 (NAV map). You can zoom in or out with your mouse wheel. Right click on the purple icons. Those are gates. Press "quadrant map" button to see charted systems and your ship's position (green one) and decide where you want to go. Press "nav map" button to turn back to nav map. After deciding which system you want to go, right click on corresponding gate, also appears gate's name below the nav map as you see. Then press F2 (jump). Keep your pitch to zero when you jump and after your jumping finish you will see the gate. Go in to it and after another jump session you are in new system. You can see which system you are in using your quadrant map again.
I suggest you to play training sessions first then, check out help files to learn the game well.
Rigth click on the stations then F2 (set your pitch again to zero) for faster jump to stations.
Game's user interface is cool, you will probably get use to it quickly.
Awesome game, I hope to see you in Mp.
If you have other questions, feel free to ask.
Fly safe.

Hi
Before you Jump to your contract/mission area set your compass to zero or 180 and your pitch to zero...as you push the f2 key pull back on your joystick...you should be clearing the hostiles as you jump in...turn IDS off, fuel off and drop cm's when missiles are fired at you or you can shoot the missiles down with cannon fire. As you are passing hostiles turn your ship around and while flying backwards get a target lock on nearest hostile and fire off a missile at it...also note that laser and cannon fire is most effective 500 and less away from hostile ships. Adjusting shield and weapon energy is very important. This is just 1 example of what you can do in a Dog Fight....Hope this helps youOriginally posted by nIckEl101

Hi
Even faster way, you won't have even time to go get something is to join multiplayer in a sector where there are a lot of advanced players or a big clan doing contracts. By the time you set your jump coordinates you already have extra credits in your bank account. LOLOriginally posted by MarvinOriginally posted by BraveHart

Hi
I experienced that one first-hand last night while flying with my new SD brothers. Before I could set my coords to jump I saw missiles at the jump point. When I arrived, all the Vonari were space dust.
Quite humbling.

Hi
Yup, the only disadvantage of joining a big clan and doing contracts when a lot of your clan members are doing contracts in a sector is that as a new member you will have a hard time getting your kill rate score up. In warzones your kill rate does not matter since it does not contribute to your rank or reputation increase. But anywhere else it does. LOL

Hi
Braveheart spells out a very good tactic that should help you out. However, I might point out that combat in this game is much different than other space sims. In this game you must use to your advantage the effects of inertia and the laws of physics in the vacuum of space. As you drop in from your jump your ship is travelling at maximum afterburner speed. If you have IDS on the ships thrusters will try to return you to normal cruising speed. Turning IDS to Inertia mode lets you continue to float freely at the max jum speed which is quite a bit faster than AI missles and guns can track you. At that speed you can float past them taking pot shots while shooting down their missles.Originally posted by BraveHartBefore you Jump to your contract/mission area set your compass to zero or 180 and your pitch to zero...as you push the f2 key pull back on your joystick...you should be clearing the hostiles as you jump in...turn IDS off, fuel off and drop cm's when missiles are fired at you or you can shoot the missiles down with cannon fire. Liberal use of Chafe countermeasures and good use of inertia can keep you out of harms way while you clear out most of the group with your missles.
Before any of that however you might be better off upgrading that ship, your guns and missles. Spend some time with a science officers searching for stray containers and look for those lucrative trade runs to get some cash. Then venture out to the other "fair" reputation zones where you will only encouter a few stray "Reds" while you search for better equipment. I found that once I equiped a level 6 shield or better I was able to take on some of those contract missions. A level 6 shield should protect you from one or two hits which I found to be key in surviving long enough to get the hang of combat.
