Weapon stats?

Post by Wedge598 »

Really had a great time last night poking around with the full version. I was impressed with how cool the nebulas look!

As I was milling about Saphire I was checking out weapons at the different stations and noticed that there are some stats given that are labeled Y, C and R. R seemed to be obvious as the range of missles. But the Y and C elude me. What do each stand for?

I assume one might be the rate of fire and the other the damage?

Also, I'd like to venture outside Saphire soon but was wondering if any of the connecting areas are non-hostile or should I be prepared for a fight the minute I leave Saphire? I've begun upgrading the ship a little but probably need to do a lot more if I want to survive.

Haven't tried online yet but will likely give it a go soon. Still getting my feet wet with the game so I'd like to get more familiar with the basics before I embarrass myself online.

Dear Wedge98,
Personally, I think you should spend more time in Sapphire system.
Sapphire offers a little taste of everything that you will find higher up. There is a lot more exploring you might do, especially around Erato. Don't forget to search Nebulas for hidden stations, crates, or even planets!
Besides that, are you comfortable with your skill at landing on planets? Have you tried or mastered the art of mining planets? It is possible.
Don't be in a rush to get into combat. It's true that other players will help you in MP, but you will truly miss a lot that Sapphire has to offer as well as the ability to do things on your own. and if you don't learn to do them in Sapphire, you will never do them in other systems and end up asking everyone and anyone where is what.
If you must test your mettle in combat, I reluctantly suggest Olympus. It is the least hostile system after Sapphire. From thereon, you must be prepared to fight increasing hostiles.
But I admonish you to take more time in Sapphire and learn more about exploring. I know you have not found everything there is to find.
Have fun.

All the Connected Systems to Saphire are Hostile. As you progress you can make these Systems less Hostile and even Friendly by doing contracts in these systems! But you can also explore other systems by jumping through the Hostile once without stopping to more friendlier Systems ;)

I fully intend to spend quite a bit more time in Saphire. I've completed a bunch of contracts already and have been doing a lot of successful mining as well. But there is clearly more to explore so I am doing that. I hired a science officer and will likely get a Nav Officer soon to aid in my exploration.

Yes, that would be the best thing to do. But also joining multi player will help you a lot in the beginning
