As far as I can tell this has not been discussed here before. I would really like to see Xfire support for Evochron Legends. It's a great advertisement for the game for one thing, and it's really useful for players too. You can see at a glance whether your friends are playing and join them with a single click, and while in-game you can easily record videos and post screenshots to the website. It's an amazing little app.

Any chance of this?

You have to petition on the xfire forums. There has been an attempt in the past to get xfire support, however it has been met with no response

Edit: there is currently a thread. Add your support to this thread and please do not create a new one :)

http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?nam ... t=evochron

There are also threads for Renegades and Alliance.

Edited again, because there were TWO threads... ugh... this link is the most correct as it has a few comments already.

Well, I believe support can be expedited by the game's developer getting actively involved, as recently happened with AI War by Arcen Games. But whatever the case, I will certainly add my voice on the Xfire forum. :)

Looks like their SDK only provides a header file and some cpp stuff, what I'll likely need is a DLL (preferably that they provide) I can plug into. If they contact me as a result of the requests on their forums, I'll review options with them to see if it can be feasibly added.

I think if you send an email from the SDK page [email protected] then they are quite helpful. AI War they then bought as a result :)

Thanks Guys, this is one deep game so it's going to take me a little time to get aquainted but looks interesting so far (Huw and I play AI wars so I wanted to check it out as well). Graphics were much mroe impressive than I thought they would be

It would only be relevant if you ran xfire, no different from a game/application accessing the hard drive

The X-Fire stuff will have no effect if you are not using X-Fire.
No "personal information" is revealed, only game stats.
And that can also be disabled, allowing you to use the various other aspects that xfire has such as screenshot upload and hosting, video and broadcast abilities

The possibility that X-Fire might make voice communication easier for Evochron pilots.

For those that would like to explore the voice comm of X-Fire with Evochron, I have started a chat room (evochron) with voice chat enabled (medium quality).

Have fun out there while I'm at work!
tbh The voice in xfire isn't that great. I went for a small commercial vent server which takes 15 people and costs less then 3$ a month. Just makes Voice comms a lot easier

Woo! Thanks a lot Vice, it's much appreciated. Xfire is so useful that I actually get really dismayed when I find out that my new favourite game isn't supported. I appreciate that you're willing to give it a go. :)

Nope, but I didn't really expect to get a reply. I'd guess that hearing from their own users would be more effective.

Definitely the more posting in the xfire forum

http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?nam ... t=evochron

Will get them interested, however the experience on AI Wars appeared to say they are relatively good with Devs. Whether that is because more people posted on the forum I don't know but certainly they do appear to go the extra mile

Okay, looks like XFire support is coming! Just got this email back from them:
Dear Chris,

Thank you for the email and interest in Xfire. We have just purchased a copy of AI War: Fleet Command, and we will try to support this game as soon as we can J. If there are any further questions, I will be sure to email you.

Thanks!

Doesn't she get a cookie for going the extra mile! I really never expected them to buy the game in order to add support, I just asked about alternate methods to their C-based hooks (which, incidentally, thanks to darke's notes about SWIG might have been doable anyway -- and I have a lot of background in doing P/Invoke and COM Interop, anyway, but the problem is that then their dlls have to be precompiled and there are some fun challenges with data transformations... but now this is really getting off topic).

Anyway, I was really surprised by this sort of response, I'm really impressed with them already.

I cast my vote on the Xfire forum. There are only 13 posts in the thread at this point. If you're reading this now, please head over there and speak up in support of our game. I don't use Xfire yet, but will... if they work EL into their games list.

I also posted.

Yep it's a great promotional tool as much as anything as each game has a profile page with videos/screenshots/stats etc
