So I downloaded the game and decided to play around. I have already upgraded the ship and weapons a few times, things are going well!
Then I started a fight.....
I know that I have read many times, practice, practice, but it is hard to practice at something that takes 3 seconds. That being said, here are a few questions I have.
1. Do missles ignore shields?
2. The primary weapons don't seem to do anything. Is there something I am missing?
3. Honestly, I forgot the rest....sigh
4. Wait, the original question was How many ships can you hire total in SP and in MP?

Hackados, welcome to Evochron Legends and the forum!
1. No. Missiles have to punch past the shield before it can do damage. Sometimes, if your shield is good enough and the missile fire at you was of a low class, it will only damage the shields and will not penetrate through to the hull.
2. Particle cannons are good for hull damage but not shields. Lasers are good for shields but not hull damage. Most players use them in conjunction for maximum effect. It still takes some time, though, and the lower class cannons and lasers you have, the less effective they are.
4. There are no fleets in MP. I do not know the limit for SP.

You left out a very critical detail. Where did you start the fight? My guess is you ventured to an area of space you aren't ready for yet.
MP = However many other players you can get to join you up to the maximum supported by the server.

Some are more effective at getting through shields than others. Depends on the missile and shield system.1. Do missles ignore shields?
Maybe the other ship? Did your shots make contact? Did you use the MDTS or not? What kind of cannon are you using against what class of ship? If you're still flying around in a pulsar with a flarebeam, you're not going to do much damage to medium and heavy class ships.2. The primary weapons don't seem to do anything. Is there something I am missing?
No rush, you can always post more questions later.3. Honestly, I forgot the rest....sigh
SP = I would not recommend more than about 8-10 or so as that would just create excessive clutter and probably do more harm than good for your combat efforts.4. Wait, the original question was How many ships can you hire total in SP and in MP?

Hello Hackados, welcome to the forum and the Sim.
Missiles take down Sheilds then work on frames as do other weapons.
Primary weapons work but work slower than missiles.
There is no known limit to how many ships you can hire "BUT" this is done in SP ONLY.
Good flying 2 U.
U guys are to fast or my typing is to slow (lol).

Thanks for the quick feedback...
The fight started in Olympus. I am not sure how many there were, but I was dead in seconds. Have tried several times, but I just keep getting killed really fast. Seems like I can only take 2 missles, a CMs don't seem to work, and I have dropped 10 at a time trying.
I'll play around with it some more this weekend and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again.

Are you trying to fight by just flying straight in toward a target, guns blazing? If so, you will die quickly because you're just making yourself an easy target, even for an easy opponent. You'll need to learn some basic principles of angled approach, drifting, shield management, and countermeasures. Yes, 2 missiles can destroy you if you're in a light frame. You need to either shoot them down before they hit or use CM's properly. You can't just launch CM's and expect results, they require tactics as well. Wait until the missile gets close enough to set off the proximity alarm, then drop at least 4-5 CM's. With the missile that close, the CM's will be able to bombared the missile with more radiation at a closer range before they burn out, making them more effective. Also cut your engines and thrusters (turn off the IDS) to reduce your heat signature, which makes it more difficult for the missile to track you and helps your CM's be even more effective.

I wasn't going at them head on, was trying to stay right behind the one at one point, that battle lasted a bit longer though. It may have been that I didn't notice the incoming missles.
Another question though, will taking contracts from the Phantom Carrier in Sapphire increase my military rank?
Also, I have noticed that the autopilot does not seem to take into account anything that may be in the way (and it will jump you into a planet or station), will hiring a navigator prevent that from happening in autopilot mode?
Vice, great game!! I have to say, after playing several games recently (published by large companies with deep pockets) this is the only game that has not caused a Crash to Desktop yet, and I ran the game for about 5 hours straight last night. Most of the others crash within 2 hours.

If you want to practice against 1 opponent instead of who knows how many AI, jump on MP and ask someone to teach you. Let them know that you are new and to take it easy with you. I might be on sometime tonight between midnight and 1am central US time. Most people on MP are very friendly and more than willing to help.

No, military rank credit is exclusive to war zones.Another question though, will taking contracts from the Phantom Carrier in Sapphire increase my military rank?
Yes, it should, depending on the skill of the navigator. Also, I have noticed that the autopilot does not seem to take into account anything that may be in the way (and it will jump you into a planet or station), will hiring a navigator prevent that from happening in autopilot mode?

I had like 20+ ships in a fleet yesterday. Was expensive though - 330k a ship. They seemed to run out of missiles quick, so they had to engage with cannons and lasers I guess.
