Reputations and Military Frames *minor spoilers*

Post by redviking »

First of all, this is a wonderfully helpful group and thanks for your many welcomes :) Hope to do some waypoint runs with someone real soon.

As some of the other posts point out, there are various colors of the same faction in some systems because they're all basically mercs doing contracts for those factions at that time. But that means I can't attack back a red Navy ship if I want to raise my faction in Navy. Am I right? Just wondering, because I thought perhaps it was a Navy merc from another system doing a trade (like Federation Navy in Alliance space). Is it? Another rep question I have is if I'm raising Navy faction in New Hope of Sapphire space, does that affect rep in Glacia of Sapphire space? It seems to be very localized. If I'm beloved by the Alliance Navy does that mean I should raise my rep with the Rebels or Guild of a Federation territory and shoot up the Federation Navy and Energy? That would be... awesomeness. However, I was worried about killing Federation Navy because I couldn't tell (except by the map) if I was really shooting up hostile Alliance Navy mercs who happened to be in Federation space. Did I make sense? I'm pretty sure I am overcomplicating the Faction system in my head now.

The other topic is somewhat related, though perhaps I should've found or made another string? I'm new to forums. I usually just read and leave no comments. I want to know about finding my way into a military ship. I think I read somewhere that it has to do with reps and being in Warzones, but I found The Phantom (and only that so far) in Sapphire space and they let me build a Ferret (only that). I thought it might unlock more Navy missions at the Phantom, but it didn't. There wasn't much to shoot and I guess I need to grind a bunch of "locate the crate" contracts with them. I did five and lost interest due to lack of shooting (hehe, no really, I was worried since it's Sapphire that the pay and missions might never change). Am I right? I think I'll stick to my cargo hauling Raven for now and shoot up rebels elsewhere. Who's up for a patrol together?

If they're already red, you can generally attack them with minimal impact. But make sure not to go on a full attack against a lot of ships or you can see your reputation for that faction fall significantly. If you want to improve your reputation with a particular faction, try to avoid attack any ships allied with them and consider bribing them instead of shooting them.

Yes.

It is localized to the solar system you are in. Entirely different systems of space have their own unique reputation structures.

The Phantom is a carrier in peaceful space. So the objectives you will be offered from that ships are just retrieval missions. If you want some combat, fly to a war zones and dock with a carrier there. You'll be offered a number of different combat missions including spying, escorting, patrol, and strike.

I meant localize even more further. As in, if I'm working on Energy contracts in Rivoch and then move to Erato, will I lose momentum on building that Energy contract relationship? I read in the manual that it works by a sort of momentum, so I was just curious about how local that got. It sounds like you'd say the answer to my question is no, the momentum from areas within a system are connected. Is that right?

Thanks, Vice!

If you only work in one area for a little while, before your global reputation changes, then move on to a different system, you will be viewed as a system hopper that the local faction(s) can't count on. If you stick with them long enough to transition from one global reputation to another, then you keep that momentum and the new reputation you've earned. Short term efforts typically earn short term results. You need to make it worth their while by earning their trust long term.
