Finding Hidden Containers... (possible spoilers).

Post by Roadblock »

Okay, I give up...Ive spent a couple of hours this morning trying to learn how to track down hidden containers using my science officer's coordinates. Twice I have gotten close enough, using his directions (sometimes jumping out and back from different angles to sort of triangulate), seen the purple dot on the scanner, and been unable to locate the container.

Spoilers to follow...... new pilots stop reading here.....

First container I found is in Sapphire system sector 0,0,0, and seems to be BELOW the surface of the planet.

Second one , was in 1,0,-1, and seems to be Inside the asteroid cave. I flew around for an hour in here looking for a way to get to it, but to no avail. This one, I'll concede, maybe there is some cool, hidden way to get to it, and I just couldn't find it.. but, the first one was definitely UNDER the planet's surface (according to the way the purple dot on my scanner behaved).

Can someone shed some light?

Thanks!

Sometimes you can access hard to reach items with your tractor beam. For asteroids caves, you'll need to fly into them. Look for an entrace on one side of the cave.

Sorry, I was unclear. I had no problem getting inside the cave. I flew around INSIDE the cave for a good while. It was like a maze, and I found the constructor station, but I still couldn't find a path to get near the cargo containers. The best I could do was get about 3500-4000 away from them.

How about the ones buried in the planet's crust? :)

The containers you believe are in the crust of the planet are actually on the other side of the planet, sometimes
the bearing you get from your crew man is a direct straigth line bearing and could be behind the planet from your current possition. Fly half way around the planet to the other side and look for the containers there follow the purple blip!;)

Okay, so I finally looked up the coordinates in the universedata file and they are most definitely about 230 (meters? I'm not sure what units are used to measure distances) under the ground. I can "land" on the planet, stand my ship on its nose, and tractor beam some cargo out of it. Could this be a bug? or did someone bury some food and medicine out in the middle of nowhere?

The asteriod cave won't show you the purple blip for the pods from the entrance, and there is a simple way to get to them.
Spoiler: when you find them, go to Revoch Space Station to sell them for maxed profit.
Look for me in-game.
