Nub needs some help

Post by Gawl »

I just picked up Evochron legends and I'm loving it so far. Spent the last 3 days in saphire and I'm trying to go check out some new sectors but having a hell of a time with it.

My fulcrum drive will take me 2 jumps and I'm trying to get to Olympus. I checked the quadrant map and tried to set a waypoint and couldn't set one like I do when in the Nav map. So I saw the coords listed on the quad map and put those in my nav console, hit autopilot and I started going back to saphire....

So, my question is how do I get to another quadrant using the autopilot? The only other thing I can think to do is just keep setting a way point 2 sectors east and hope I get there eventually and not run out of fuel.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

You need to upgrade your equipment ... especially your jump drive. The standard drive sends you around in circles ... kind'a like a Honda 50.

While in Sapphire, go from one station to another, accepting delivery contracts in each, until you build up some cash. As you go, keep an eye out for a tractor beam ... if you have the credits, buy one. Then go down to a planet and mine for ore ... especially gold, silver, diamonds and that other mineral that's really expensive (the name escapes me at the moment).

Upgrade your engine. Upgrade your shields. And you'll find life to be a lot easier.

Hmm ok, I'll have to see if I can get some better equipment. I have been mining, but I didn't know I could mine on a planet. I have been mining roids for diamonds and platnium. Where on the planets can you mine...any rock surface?

As for upgrading my ship I'll keep doing that but at the moment I can't find anything better at the stations and planets thats better than what I have.

I have about 1.5 mil credits and I have the 4th airframe, shields 2, engines 6 and wings 4 I think with 5 cargo holds. As for the fulcrum drive, so far I haven't find one over 2, I'll keep doing contracts until something bigger shows up. About what size do I need to make a trip that far? Everyone in MP last night told me to just click on my map to set the destination but that was only working on the nav map, not the quadrant map.

You can't use the quadrant map except to copy the coordinates to the windows located in the upper-right side of the navigation map. But the easiest way to get from one star system to another is via the jump gates.

You can mine on any planet ... if you mine inside a "grassy" area, you'll usuaully be getting biologicals. The easiest way to mine is to land in a clearing close to a base, fill your cargo holds (have at least 4 cargo holds installed), and go sell the stuff at the station. While you're there (at the station), check for a better (class 3, at least) Fulcrum drive.

Hi Gawl, welcome to the forum and the Sim. The farther you go the bigger the equipment gets as a general rule. Shields are a very important aspect unless you can outrun your enemy. The whole experience will be about balance and what you plan on doing in the near future. Good luck and will C U in space sometime.

Oh ok, I have seen many of the gates but was told last night while in MP not to use them as they usually lead to trouble. Is there an easy way to see which gate takes you where? Or just take a gate and see where I end up?

 Right-click over a gate to zoom in on it ... then cursor over the gate to see where it goes. You can also set the nav map to display tags but it usually gets too cluttered when you do it that way (especially in a place like Sapphire).

Awesome, thanks Marvin. I'll give that a try tonight when I fire it up. So far I'm diggin the game, reminds me a lot of Privateer, Freelancer and Jumpgate. Good stuff, now lets get it going into a MMO with an economy and we got a winner!
