Banshee Cannon Where Can I get One?
Yeah, I just experimented with it and it appears it does not work.

After a lot of testing, I can agree that for a newbie as myself Banshee is not the best choice.
On the other hand Maxim-R has proven itself more helpful. You can ask the Vonari for proof...
Oh I forgot. Dead men (or aliens) tell no tales!!:P

Banshee Cannon Where Can I get One?
I tried to explain this, but maybe I failed. There are only 3 different firing rates - 120 RPM, 100 RPM, and 90 RPM. If you read my math above, that is the damage dealt by the highest class weapon in each category:Originally posted by Accountant
Everything else does not fire exactly as fast as a Banshee, as evidenced by the cycle rate. This is what makes lower-class cannons desirable.
All of your math assumes that every shot counts. A lower class cannon is able to fire more shots in the same amount of time as a Banshee, which means a higher probability of landing a shot. If a ship is being buffeted by incoming rounds, it is not going to be as accurate, even if it has a Banshee. With a Banshee, fewer shots will hit their mark because of the enemy fire and the low cycle rate. This potentially gives a lower-class cannon an edge in combat, if used by a skilled pilot.
Banshees are not the ideal cannon be any stretch of the imagination. It all comes down to fighting style. I personally do better with a lower class cannon because I am not as precise in my shooting and I need a lot of shots to compensate.

24% of the banshee in the same time frame for the best 120RPM gun.
53.33333% of the banshee for the best 100 RPM gun.
100% - Banshee @ 90 RPM.
Maybe this is why you require missiles to kill me?

I've not noticed a difference either.Originally posted by Storm
xman1, Accountant.... (nods).... also there is something that to my mind has never been *completely* explained... I've asked... the Strategy Guide *IMPLIES* that different frames have different energy reserves (for weapons, shields). I've experimented, and I just don't see it. If a Leviathan has "more energy available" than a Phoenix, the difference must be slight and very subtle.

@Xman1
I missed that in your first post, thanks for clarifying.
The difference in RPM is what makes the lower cannons so desirable. Sure, the Banshee may kick butt when every shot lands, but the fact is not every shot will land. A cannon with a higher RPM may therefore deal more damage than a Banshee simply because more rounds hit their target.
Not to mention than Banshees suck at shooting down missiles. An Eclipse or Starguard cannon is much more suited toward anti-missile work.
In the end, it is down to personal preference. I have used the Banshee, and just cannot get excited about it. I will keep my Starguard and resort to shooting you down with missiles

Accountant - You use a StarGuard? Not being critical, you understand... that makes me curious enough to try it myself. It's an unusual, unique statement to make, one takes notice.
In a new game (I started over again with 1.108 yesterday), I've "cleared" Faustion and Olympus, next stop Onyx. With my established, favored loadout. I will back up my game, and try a StarGuard versus a Maxim-R for myself.
(EDIT); Nope, a StarGuard just didn't quite work for me. Even with a maxed out crew (100/100) and energy balance at -5S/+5E, in Onyx, it only "cooked" hostile ships a little. Usually with a Maxim-R I can take out up though a Saber (undamaged with full shields) with one "gun run" ("jousting"), sometimes a Hunter. It was a worthy experiment though. Back to the Maxim-R.
