*Cough*

If you hate spoilers just don't go to the forum, or don't read this

Use a maxim-r, they are a bit better in some ways..'

1. Faster Shooting speed
2. The beams hit the target at faster speed
3. MUCH less energy used. 7 beams with banshee shot already drains your energy (on +5 energy even) on my avenger... Maxim-r I can shoot 20 or 30 and it reloads it's energy faster

You should know where the banshee is at by now.... just like Mantis drive and Stealth Generator (BUT stealth generator is only found in VERY secret places)

Banshee can be found, but you have to go through a jumpgate, then a wormhole... or just buy one there if you find the base..

The banshee cannon is devastating however, and the heavy power requirements are pretty much negated if you have a canon relay system.

Even with relay system, it drains very fast...
I never see it hit, either... my ship goes faster than the bullet.

VIce, can't you make it so when you fly fast - the bullet flies faster? When I fly fast the bullets go way behind me on banshees and they rarely hit my target...
On maxim-r They mostly hit ...

Thinking about it, the only thing that is different is the rate of fire.

Yup, that is my experience as well, the only difference being rate of fire and difference in yield!;)

I think it really depends on how accurate you can be. If you can make those banshee shots count, then it's great because your opponent will drop faster. But, in PVP, I never can hit some of these other pilots consistently, so I like to able to afford to miss.

I found that in SP finding items in hidden systems if pretty easier than in MP.

I got my mantis and banshee and iI can say that I love it. Every shot counts and the target is down in no time.
Best regards

Yes, this is true for some reason, maybe because in Multi Player Stations and hidden locations are sold out of all the goods and desired equipment to other players running trade routes!LOL:P:P:P:P:P

I dunno....

In Renegades, I did extensive experiments with the Banshee, Maxim-R, and other cannon. I duplicated those experiments under Legends.

It SEEMS like... OCCASIONALLY... a Banshee *crushes* ships (including the heavies) unexpectedly-quickly. But sometimes it takes a while to pound down a specific ship. But it is inconsistant. Even when one is VERY careful to make every shot count. Not sure why. Could be that everyone just flies differently, and there are going to be "nuances".

The best cannon that works for me is the Maxim-R. Every time I try I higher Class of cannon I get a little disappointed and end up going back to the Maxim-R.

Yes there are going to be differences in your opponents capabilities to with stand your attacks depending on your opponents Shield Class, Boosters, Ship, Shield Augmentation, presence of a repair system and class, in civillian case crew members, experience, ......etc.......etc.!;)

Banshee Cannon Where Can I get One?

Lets do some math here.

The canon that does the most damage with the fastest firing does 24% of the damage of the banshee in the same time frame assuming all shots hit.

The cannon that does the most damage at the next fastest firing rate does 53.33333% of the damage in the same time frame.

Everything else fires exactly as fast as the Banshee so they are just downgrades from there.

Cranking my energy to +5, I counted the number of shots the banshee deals out before running out of energy and came to a total number of 57. If we put that into context and know that a banshee deals out 250 points of damage per shot (you can see this when you are mousing over it), your math would equate to 14250 points of damage prior to running out of power. This is of course with my cannon relay system installed.

Lets now compare this to all other damaging objects in the game - I can come up with one with a bigger damage dealing and this is only if you are close enough - a Fulcrum Torpedo. No missile can deal this kind of damage. Beam weapons are also pathetic. I have a Fusion laser and it drains power at 2x that of the banshee for only 75 damage. Its almost worthless unless I feel lazy about closing on a target and want to keep its shields drained! This usually happens only when I have a beer in one hand that is keeping me from my throttle! Of course, drinking beer in one hand while fighting has proven to be my doom on more than one occasion, but the fact that I survive and cause damage while drinking a beer at the same time should also tell you something! :D

The point being, hopefully I dispelled some myths around this cannon.

Everything else does not fire exactly as fast as a Banshee, as evidenced by the cycle rate. This is what makes lower-class cannons desirable.

All of your math assumes that every shot counts. A lower class cannon is able to fire more shots in the same amount of time as a Banshee, which means a higher probability of landing a shot. If a ship is being buffeted by incoming rounds, it is not going to be as accurate, even if it has a Banshee. With a Banshee, fewer shots will hit their mark because of the enemy fire and the low cycle rate. This potentially gives a lower-class cannon an edge in combat, if used by a skilled pilot.

Banshees are not the ideal cannon be any stretch of the imagination. It all comes down to fighting style. I personally do better with a lower class cannon because I am not as precise in my shooting and I need a lot of shots to compensate.

I usually aim for the weapon sistem of my target.....and that is something to take into account.

Fighting with an enemy you just disarmed is easier.

xman1, Accountant.... (nods).... also there is something that to my mind has never been *completely* explained... I've asked... the Strategy Guide *IMPLIES* that different frames have different energy reserves (for weapons, shields). I've experimented, and I just don't see it. If a Leviathan has "more energy available" than a Phoenix, the difference must be slight and very subtle.

I see that I can sustain sever seconds of continued fire with a banshee cannon and the best laser weapon (sorry I can't remember the name).

I fly a Levi with cannon relay and 100% skill crew (it counts too). Since more than 50% of my shots hits the target as I learned how to fight in WWI simulators, I usually shot only when I can hit.

For my kind of gameplay that combination is more than useful since the target is almost always weakeened by the excals, if not as damage it is on energy to shoot them down or speed to avoid them.

I prefer few hits but more powerful. Sort of the difference between a sniper rifle and a shotgun..... who knows what's best?

If you are a skilled pilot you should be able to make all shots count regardless which one is being used! It all comes with practice and experience!;)

DannyMala, yours is a good example of a pilot who is well-suited toward the Banshee. I, on the other hand, need a high-cycle rate weapon because I go into a fight with the trigger (left mouse button) depressed just hoping to get some sort of hit on my opponent. I prefer the M249 approach to the sniper approach.

@Storm
I believe the "energy reserves" manifest themselves in assembly points rather than in the weapon energy bar. A higher frame has a higher energy core to take on larger engines, better wings, or whatever you desire to put on the ship that requires more assembly. For the most part, the energy for the gun is the same.

Now, one thing I do not know that I am now curious about it, if there are extra assembly points left, does that translate to more energy for the gun?
