Why not an EL for Science fiction lovers?

Post by rsitaly »

Hello!

Please don't shoot on me ... I want to make some suggestions so anybody can have his type of game.

A premise ... I'm a Science Fiction lover since I was a very young boy and I have seen almost all the TV serials and movies and I have read many books; this passion of mine stand also today.

I have dreamed many times about having my spaceship in order to travel, explore, trade etc ... without having to worry about money, enemies etc ... simply landing on planets, docking on stations, upgrading my ship as I want, trading, mining, delivering passengers, accepting contracts without thinking to money and, maybe, without having to fight every time I enter in a new system.

In other words, it is my FANTASY that makes the game!

So, thinking at other games like FREELANCER or BATTLECRUISER where you can customize gameplay options, I'd love to have some options offered by the game officially in a specific menu; of course tagging these options will invalidate the profile for Multiplayer.

These options could be:

1) amount of money - you can speficy any amount
2) AI enemy ships - you can toggle them ON or OFF
3) AI enemy ships level (if you toggle then ON)- rookie, elite, veteran, etc ...
4) invulnerability

I know that all of you will find these a wrong idea ... but for the ones like me that what simply follow their dreams to explore the universe using their fantasy, it can be THE PERFECT game.

Thanks for attention ... and thanks to VICE for making this fantastic game!

Oh, italian and coming from Battlecruiser.... I'm asotnished.:)

That kind of approach is totally different from the scope of the game, but possibily is not a difficult thing to implement. Vice will have the word on this.
Best regards

For 2 and 3 you can modify the universedata.txt file to get the same effect.

Heh.

If you have invulnerability I don't know why you would care about enemy ships. ;)

I read one science fiction story where, every time this guy fell asleep and had a dream, the dream came true. Other than that, I don't see how such a wish list could be considered science fiction.

Evochron Legends, on the other hand, can be modded to reflect a lot of different science fiction concepts. Personally, I'm working on one that has a "Foundation and Empire" (Isaac Asimov) feel to it.

I'd love to see that, Assimov is one of my all-time favourite authors ( only slightly behind Iain M Banks, and Dante )

For 2 and 3, you can achieve that by modifying the universe data file. And that can make it incompatible with the multiplayer mode. For 1, you can set up a scenario where you can acquire plenty of credits using the same file. Invulnerability isn't really an option, although you can lower risk by limited enemy ship classes in various locations, making them extremely easy to destroy.

I've had to modify the "Asimov galaxy" ... scrunching the distance between Trantor and Terminus so that I can assign each to a real star system in the Milky Way. It doesn't extend all the way to the galaxy's rim ... but all systems, relative to one another, should be oriented properly. (Even Google can't find enough stars near the galactic center for me to put two systems as close together as would be Trantor and Neo-Trantor/Delicass.)

That said, I've located places to put most of the "Foundation" star systems ... 'though I still have a few to go. When that's done, I'll start plotting out stars and planets, doing my best to create a database that reflects Asimov's description (if any) of each planet and its economy.

The story line will be post-Gaia, where Galaxia is challenged by a new race (originating from a star system even closer to the galactic center). It will vindicate the Seldon Plan.

Also Verbosity spoke about modifying the universe data ... where can I find a documentation in order to know what the numbers in it mean?

 I think you mean one large moon ... relative to the planet Earth. Jupiter and Saturn have some pretty big moons, too, but their ratios are much smaller (as Asimov noted) than the size ratio between Earth and Luna.

@ rsitaly: check the mods section of this forum ... there's a topic on creating a galaxy from scratch that has a lot of information, courtesy of Vice (with added info from some of the Evochron vets).
