Just tried a delivery mission with no success. I flew to the waypoint and there I found several ships. I tried dropping the cargo (pressing J) but it kept saying out of range.
SO a couple of questions.
1. Is there any way to tell which ship it is you're delivering to? (I assumed it was the friendly green ship)
2. Exactly how close to the ship do you need to be? (I was at the bottom of the huge friendly ship and at 650 but couldn't get closer)
If the drop requires you to be closer then 650 on the big ships perhaps you could consider increasing it to 800?
Anyways thanks for the help for now I'll stick to the racing missions until I can find a tractor beam. Just loving the game so far, steep learning curve though.

When you accept the mission, a waypoint will automatically be loaded into your navigation system. Either fly to the waypoint or jump to it, and the ship on which the waypoint is centered is the ship you need to drop the cargo off at. You just need to fly underneath the ship, you don't have to be right up against it.

Yes you need to be under the ship between 0 and 650 meters I believe! If you fly under the ship and keep moving forward from the back to the front of the ship you should be able to get closer then 650 meters. Make sure that you target the ship so you can monitor your distance

Just noticed that if you click jump right after you accept a mission it will jump there. These missions are an awesome way to make money.
The distance is actually not important so long as you are below the ship I found out. Or at least if you aim to fly far under it, you can drop the cargo no problem.
