As I mentioned before, Vice never said "it couldn't be done", nor did he ever say it could and he still hasn't commented one way or another!

I'm with you! Although I think I tried everything except reverse landing making the defense beliieve your leaving instead of landing!LOL:P:P:P:P:P

But I'll keep trying everytime I get in the neighbourhood of Sol.

As I have said before, I don't think it's just the mechanics of finding a way to land.
I think there is some "artifact" or some other kind of item that you bring with you that will lower the planets defenses.
That's why I think it may be part of the "Quest", or some object found while doing the quest.
Of course, I could be wrong....

From the data info on Earth (in the you know what spoiler .txt file), Earth has no dockable cities!, so the only way to land would be on Land or Sea of Earth. Unless the secret on Landing on Earth is hard coded in the game!;)

I think that I'm cracking up. last night I dreamed of EL, especially landing on Earth.

In the dream, I found a roid that was a partiuclar shade of green. When I mined it, and had filled up a cargo bay, I got a one time ticket to land on earth.

Outside of the dream, I've been searching Sol for the possibility of a hidden container that would contained an IFF device to let me land on earth - so far, zilch!

Somebody tell me, the defences fire rockets, and the rockets have limits, and follow heat signals.
So I believe this should be a team effort where either five or six ships run for it, and hope to pass, or two should be the runners, with their engines maxed out, and the rest should do a silent approach.

Seriously, Vice provides us with an arduous and difficult path to get to Sol, then prevents us from landing there. It's like Sol is the "Forbidden Planet" or the forbidden fruit.
Yet we can land on the other nearby planets, but not Earth. It just doesn't make sense and since Vice still refuses to comment one way or the other, I would think it possible.
I don't know how, but I'm sure it is.
The fact that there is no landing zone listed in the .txt file doesn't surprise me a bit.
Of course, I could be wrong....

I firmly believe (or hope?) that Vice's silence is a hidden approval, and frankly I don't mind if there is no cities to land!

The alternative is that Vice sees the thread and LOLs. And that's not funny. At all!

I think it is.

Maybe not as funny as a guy who crawls into the middle of a desert to find an oasis, only to find that it was a mirage, but still pretty funny.

The mirage just recedes as you progress, moving forward all the time, but so slowly it is imperceptible.

Even as you lay, gasping in the desert, drawing your last breath, you can see the "oasis" just on the horizon, taunting you further.

Some one made it??? I'm in Sol now, I have spent hours just sitting in front of that confounded planet studying every inch of that defense ring, trying to figure a new way, I haven't thought of, or read about. Learning from all the posts of those who have tried before me, knowing I'm closer to breaking this mystery.

The idea of having multiple ships make a run for it, sounds plausible. The fact that some one has possibly made it has renewed my resolve. I will keep you posted on my progress. I know riches await. I can imagine overflowing platinum runs in the hundreds of millions of dollars and other riches, just waiting for us.

Eclipse claims he made it, but it has not been confirmed. I must admit, if anyone DID make it, it would likely be Eclipse.

I could be way off on this, especially considering that Eclipse claims he made it, but as I've said before, I think it is some "thing" , an artifact, something found floating in space, that when stored aboard, will allow passage thru the defenses. That's the way I think Vice would do it, but Eclpise claims he made it w/o any special found item. So, I don't know who or what to believe atm.
If Eclipse sez he made it, there's a good chance he did.

MMaggio, I believe you are definitely on to something. I'm in Sol. I'm going to start my search on all those distant planets beginning with Pluto. I'll start my search in the upper atmosphere, and work a grid search across the planet. Then I will proceed with a phase II grid search, sector by sector.

I'll give a hint, but I will not reveal directly how I did it.
So far Maarschalk is the one that has come closest in being able to land on Earth.
I'll be laughing even more now because I know this will drive you guys nuts!
