Military carrier supplies

Post by Nigel_Strange »

The idea came to me a few days ago but I hadn't written it down before.

Military ships should have full stocks of missiles.

Even if the private markets for missiles fluctuates, I think military ships should have a full array of armament for the discriminating warrior. After all: they collect taxes, so they are never out of money to buy weaponry while there is a citizen left with spare change.

I remember some of the older games, like Starwraith, where you outfit your ship from the stockade before you go out a-slaying. Same with AC: you just pick your weps. Seems wickedly simple. You really should be able to purchase the right tool for the job if you're doing a military contract, and the military should possess the tools.

I'm not saying the weps should be free, only available.

Come to think of it, you really can't make much money on contracts if you're paying for your missiles, but that's beside the point.

F'rinstance, I might want to load up on lynx and rage missiles (are there still leech missiles?). Maybe I want to alternate them in my loadout, so I fire one, then the other. Maybe these would be for capship strikes (which don't pay). Using two missiles on an enemy seems like an enormous waste of money, but if you want a surgical strike on a target, you'd want to specially choose the hardware.

Well, just a thought.

If you look for a cost effective weapon to use in contracts, pick the Excalibur.

Otherwise that could be a valid point if you was IN the military....not doing contracts for them.

You are a freelancer working for them....you pay for your tools.... if you want free tool you should enlist.

I concur that in military platform there should be the availability of all weapons systems or most of them, but you'll pay regardless for your hardware.
Best regards

The United States Military always reserves it's best weapons for itself. For instance it always removes the most sensitive equipment from the aircraft it sells to our allies.

It does not make sense that carriers would sell high end missiles to mercinaries...only to military ships.

I personally think that by the time people in the carrier stop calling you ensign and start calling you Sarge, or Lieutenant, or Fleet Commander, and they forget your name and start kneeling at you, pointing at you and acting like you're the Master Chief in general, you might as well be considered military.

I like the idea.

Yes, no flux for military supplies, millitary supplies should always be available, but then again it becomes to easy to make monney fast, by buying them and selling them for profit on the black market. And the way the game is currently set up you can transfer your equipment to a civillian ship even if the equipment was only available to military!;););)

 Keep in mind that there are at least three drawbacks to buying from the military:

1. Often, you get stuck with what is called a "suitable substitute" ... stuff that replaces original equipment when supplies run out.

2. The military buys from the lowest bidder.

2. Even the lowest bidder will charge more than free-market value for a piece of equipment (anybody want to pay 10,000 credits for a toilet seat?).

Yes, I do not mind buying a toilet seat for 10,000 credits, depending what it is made of and if it is flyable, and if I can find a buyer that will pay me 100,000 credits for it! Everything is negotiable, well not everything really!LOL:P:P:P:P:P

OK, so, there are a couple of people who like the idea, so I'm not alone.

As for bidding wars, etc. for the military: I'm sorry i brought up taxation, as I am really just thinking about how it would play out in the game.

As for buying military hardware and selling it elsewhere, I'm not too concerned about this, as I suspect the military would sell the equipment at competitive prices, like they already do...it's just that you wouldn't have to go to 10 different systems to find that one missiles you need for a mission.

Really, the only advantage here is for people who want to use other types of missiles for missions, but they don't want to fly all over the known universe looking for them. Mainly, I was thinking about the specialty missiles that do component damage. They are a lot of fun, but you are sort of limited to where you can find them, and so, when you want to do a mission with the more exotic hardware, you can't. Or, you settle for whatever they have, which is usually one or two missile types.

And yes, most of us have reached at least Captain rank by now and can fly the really nice mil-spec starships, so I imagine they can trust us not to waste their precious Vipers.
