Military Frames require two things.
One, you have to complete military contracts in the warzone which if you look at your nav map is going north. This earns you rank which unlocks new chassis.
Two, you need to dock with a carrier in a warzone. Here is where you buy them.
I understand why you're confused about different chassis having different availability, but all the basic ship part being available right away. Confused me too at first. I imagine it's done that way so you have options early on as to what class of vessel you want to design (i.e. freighter, fighter, etc.)
It's not a bad game. It's a very good simulation of space physics with lotsa little hidden goodies, eye-candy, and it only costs you one time. For any online game now, that's amazing in itself. Mult-player is definitely the preference, as you can train with others and in-flight questions are answered in a snap. One piece of advice is that missiles in this game resemble a modern use moreso than other sci-fi flight sims. Shields don't negate them as intensely as other games, so getting hit can be very painful.
Welcome to the fringe. try not to lose your marbles in the black.

Draak, what is this ship on your avatar picture? It doesn't look like one from the game. Different color.

Great series. Shame they ditched it. There was so much more to happen. You do kinda know stuff Clips. It just looks like a cool ship to me.Originally posted by EclipseIt is the SA-43 Endo/Exo-Atmospheric Attack Jet, or "Hammerhead", from the Space: Above and Beyond series.Originally posted by reanor

I do see some similar features though with an in game shoes. Same wing angle. I bet I can create the same model or at least the one looking similarly. I am not going to be in MP until I grow up a bit.

The hardest part of the hammerhead to reproduce would be the turreting rail guns, which I believe are .50 caliber.

Played a game for a few hours again... Upgraded the ship, made some money... I don't want to make conclusions but if game requires to raise the faction, which is a form of grind, it supposed to provide more ways of doing it then:
1. Go to station
2. Get a contract
3. Fly to NAV point
4. Do a contract
5. Fly back
rince and repeat
Few things are a bit annoying:
- NAV points don't expire when you reach the place
- Your equipment resets if you get killed ( I saved before the contract and got killed in Olympus, came back from restore and I didn't have them any more, they were replaced by lvl 2 ones). It happens every time I restore and equipment on the station changes as well. Nice random equipment generator.. You can actually sit and restore the game like multiple times and wait until the station gives you something better. But why my equipment changes, thats really a minus.
- Contract detail disappears after you get killed restore and come back (I got killed, restored, warped back to NAV point and those ships weren't there anymore)
- Enemy ships ALWAYS start attacking you by unloading all the missiles that they have, so you end up with like 12 missiles on your ass just from 3 enemy ships
Game gives the impression of being really player unfriendly. I understand this is a sandbox type of game so I probably shouldn't expect anything else.
I am glad that some guys are so very excited every time they talk about the game and have fun. I wonder if they played other similar games especially the latest once.
I got really bored though during these couple of hours and you can add to it some frustration as well. Its ok, my fault. I should have played the demo before I've decided to pay. Was too excited. Reminded me some games I've played before...
Good luck, you all. I don't think I will be making a target for Ramulon after all. Game frustrates me more than it makes me feel fun...

Well, you still seem to be passing over what's available to you. Do you really want help resolving and learning these things? I'll offer some more advice and responses below.
Some of the more recent 'latest' offerings have been some of the most disappointing to me, although I've also played a few wildly fun ones.
[Edited on 5-13-2009 by Vice]
First, who said the game requires raising any faction? Second, why do you think that's the only way to do it?I don't want to make conclusions but if game requires to raise the faction, which is a form of grind, it supposed to provide more ways of doing it then:
1. Go to station
2. Get a contract
3. Fly to NAV point
4. Do a contract
5. Fly back
rince and repeat
Of course they don't. Persistent navigation comes in handy for both tactical reasons and for short term location tracking.- NAV points don't expire when you reach the place
Doesn't make sense, you won't lose installed equipment unless you don't save. Also, you may have tried to save in the middle of contract, which is not possible.- Your equipment resets if you get killed ( I saved before the contract and got killed in Olympus, came back from restore and I didn't have them any more, they were replaced by lvl 2 ones). It happens every time I restore and equipment on the station changes as well. Nice random equipment generator.. You can actually sit and restore the game like multiple times and wait until the station gives you something better. But why my equipment changes, thats really a minus.
Correct, you fail the contract if you get killed. There is a 'failure' penalty for death in this game if you fail to complete the contract.- Contract detail disappears after you get killed restore and come back (I got killed, restored, warped back to NAV point and those ships weren't there anymore)
Only if you don't plan your attack properly in advance and just try to dive into the middle of the pack. That makes you an easy target. You'll need to employ a little tactical strategy if you want to avoid situations like that.- Enemy ships ALWAYS start attacking you by unloading all the missiles that they have, so you end up with like 12 missiles on your hind quarters just from 3 enemy ships
Depends on which player. Players who expect to do what you described above will find it unfriendly. This game does demand more of an effort and more 'tactics' than some other space games. You can't just jump right in with this game and expect to succeed so easily.Game gives the impression of being really player unfriendly. I understand this is a sandbox type of game so I probably shouldn't expect anything else.
I think most of them have. I know I've probably played just about every space-sim available in the last 20 years for the PCI am glad that some guys are so very excited every time they talk about the game and have fun. I wonder if they played other similar games especially the latest once.
You may simply not have the patience or interest in the approach to gameplay that this game offers, and that's perfectly fine. We all have our unique expectations and interests for fun in space-sims. I wouldn't give up though, keep learning, don't stick to shallow elements alone expecting shallow results, dig into it and you'll find some depth that can be very engaging, if you have the patience and drive to use it.I got really bored though during these couple of hours and you can add to it some frustration as well. Its ok, my fault. I should have played the demo before I've decided to pay. Was too excited. Reminded me some games I've played before...
If the above is what frustrates you, then most of your frustration probably stems from passing over options available to you and not learning how various things work. Again, I'd suggest reviewing the strategy guide and instructions. If you just don't want to, at least keep in mind the basic principles in this thread: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtop ... 944&page=1Good luck, you all. I don't think I will be making a target for Ramulon after all. Game frustrates me more than it makes me feel fun...

Sorry, to hear about your fustration with this Game Reanor. This game as a lot to offer!, I played lot of space sims as well and this one is quite unique in very many ways. And you will not discover its full depth by just doing contracts. In fact you do not have to do contracts if you do not want to. You can go mining to make a profit, or you can trade in certain places to make a lot of profit! there are two beacon quests you can do which have many surprises!. And in multiplayer you can get a lot of Help of others!. But if you feel your a little afraid as a beginner to go on multiplayer because of other players attacking you, You can ask other players not to,
and they will understand that and not attack you and almost all of them will try to offer help! And as for Romulan others will help to protect you from him/her! And you can do contracts as a group. Of all the Sims I played I think this is the best free form Space sim I ever played!

Too bad...
Your reasons didn't come to me as logical, but of course we are talking about you, have to respect.
If you really like space sims, give another chance to game and yourself.
I played many sim games, I like this game a lot.
If it doesn't work, I hope one day,you find your favorite space sim game.
Because, I found mine

Yeah I just can't seem to find myself in this game. It definitely has potential but I feel a bit guide less. I understand that this game is created to give an impression of seamless space with possibilities of your own imagination, but my mind is looking for some logical ways to start playing.
So when I get into the game. I see the station or a planet and my brain says - '"Ok, dock and take a look around." So I dock and I see " contracts ". And then next logical steps would be to do contracts. I guess I am just not a big fan of sandboxes.
I can compare my feelings to EVE Online, even though I still play it and was quite lost in the very beginning but EVE has just gazillion things to do. Tried Moon mining at some point, but then lost interest again.
I think my problem is that I am used to be guided. I like when game offers some sort of missions that game features are being exposed and unveiled through on a gradual basis. I even had problems staying attached to X3: Terran Conflict because of that. A lot of stuff to do, but no attachment to any guidelines which a lot of people prefer, in other words sandbox mode. Get in and do what you want. Also I get bored fast if I don't feel being attached to the game. Thats the worst. If I loose track and start wondering around, no guidance on what are the possibilities - I start to loose interest.
I think I am gonna try Space Force: Rogue Universe again. It allows some freedom as well and kept me attached.

The funniest thing is that I got so bored yesterday, so I got Galactic Command Echo Squad from D2D, game made by Derek Smart, 3000AD company.. lol
, I should've trusted my intuition. I played another of his games before, buggy as hell. I thought maybe 30$ means polished new game. Graphics were awesome. Game got me interested but as soon as I was done with Tutorial the game itself was actually unplayable. Star gates didn't work. Enemy ships didn't want to blow up... Just a totally broken game. THEN, I decided to get back to good ol' Space Force. And got it from STEAM. Then I realized that I already have it on IMPULSE... Damn!
Yeah I may poke in at some point. See you around.

I have to admit, I can feel for Reanor. Unless you are into the beacon quests or want to do nothing but PvP, it can get pretty boring. I admit I fall into the trap of wanting to work my way up the item acquisition ladder, a classic RPG approach. But even without help, I earned all the cash I needed and found the planets necessary to get the second most expensive civilian chassis and all the bobbles that go with. The hardest climb thus far is having time to earn any military ranking. I know the benefit, but I get tired of the mission repetition. That's part of why I've jumped to Sol so often. Good trade opportunities and I can bring back a few treats for other players, making me feel like I accomplish something for someone. I like PvP, but so far I've done nothing but training. One can probably understand that I wonder what the training is for.
But hey, it's not going to stop me from playing the game, but it is something to think about. Perhaps puts the 'new missions' thread in perspective.

Interesting Reanor and you're follow up explanation does make sense... there are certainly different preferences in those approaches to gameplay. I would be interested to see if Arvoch Conflict may be more to your liking since its structure is mission based progression. Send me a quick reminder e-mail with your EL ID and I'll forward on a registration so you can try it out.

It took me a while to get into the game, I didn't buy the game until I was utterly sure this was a game for me, I like different types of games, but I dislike simple, complete in a day type games, problem is the likes of freelancer, DS1 and SF:RU were too samely, the later had its problems, and most seem to like the game until the very end where it becomes enjoyable but you have pretty much completed it by then, plus the support of the game was shoddy
I wouldn't call any of those three space sims, more like simplified space shooters, the stories were short and no real apeal after that
The X series does get boring once you got an empire, after that the game is dead, and I do have all the games apart from TC
but when I played EL, its a interesting mix, and the nice thing is you don't need a high end system to play it, which is nice really
at one level I understand what you are saying reanor, but there is a lot to explore, more mission types would help, the recently added spy missions are pretty hard, then there is MP, which I haven't done yet, I should get around to doing that at some point:)
but the thing is, there are very few space sim games out there, ok there is Tomorrow war, but that seems (of though not got) another straight forward space shooter which is mission based, and the publisher may or may not be that good to keep the game updated, from what I read the publisher isn't well know for supporting games, but once you complete it, what else is there to do? a failing that many space sims / shooters seem to have in conman
However, EL is well supported, another plus for me, and there are modders that can and are changing many aspects of the game, adding new ships and HUDS, something that not all games support
Keep trying to get into this game, but if you don't like it, then sure look else where, but I personally not sure what you are looking for in a space sim, when there is very little choice out there? (either straight forward space shooter or space sim, and out of true space sims, the list isn't that large

To be honest I am looking for complexity. If I do something in game and it becomes a routine my brain starts to get tired and I get very bored. I love the games that promise a lot but most of those don't really deliver what they've promised.
My interests are also everywhere. I envy people who can get a game and then stick to it for weeks and months and achieve something. I usually get bored out of everything. The only game that held my attention for longer than a few months was LOTRO, MMORPG from Turbine based on Tolkien lore. I know its funny because even though fantasy and sci-fi genres don't really mix but I enjoy these opposite genres.
As long as I remember myself I was looking for some really good space sims and in my opinion X series were the best. They've actually did a good job in the Terran Conflict. Its pretty vast, a lot of solar systems and I especially liked that they have finally delivered sort of a story missions. Now there are missions for builders, for traders for pirates and so on.
I kinda like the games where you can get attached to something, some sort of story instead of a pure sand box. I think if I was sent to space on some spaceship in real life and told - here, its a seamless space you can do what you want and be who you want to be, I think I'd honestly get lost and wouldn't know what to do. Of course life would have pushed me to adopt and find the ways out to coexist with friendly vacuum
, but games still remain a source that we expect to find first of all entertaining and sometimes its not as easy as it looks
.
I think most of the guys who like EL they make their own stories inside of the game and are being driven by those imaginations since attaching yourself to the contracts would be quite boring. I could of course just fly from place to place explore everything but that would become a routine and whatever discoveries I'd find probably wouldn't be exciting any more.
I can tell you what type of games I like. If you've ever played Nexus: The Jupiter Incident - I think this game still remains the best pick for me amongst all other space sims and space RPGs. Thats what I like - to play the role in some great space adventure game
. Gonna be trying Stargate Evolution probably too. Mass Effect was really great on Xbox 360. But amongst PC games, Jupiter Incident was created really well. Even though you couldn't be a part of seamless universe to explore, I guess being attached to specific tasks while my fleet was growing kept me going.

I think if I was sent to space on some spaceship in real life and told - here, its a seamless space you can do what you want and be who you want to be, I think I'd honestly get lost and wouldn't know what to do. Of course life would have pushed me to adopt and find the ways out to coexist with friendly vacuum

New Pilot - please help with info!
by the sounds of it, EL isn't for you, problem is there are very few true space sims out there, I think you will have a hard job finding better if you have played and liked X3TC, EVE might keep you going for a bit, if you like paying for it, but I have a read a lot of negative stuff about that game, plus its very slow to get into
at the end of the day, true space sims are a rare breed, none are perfect and they all have flaws one way or another, EL is complex and simple, I think there is a lot going for it, but I guess if it isn't your cup of tea then I suggest you look else where, but it does sound you have a hard job keeping entertained by games, problem is, games are generally getting too simplified, complex games are also a rare breed:(
