Just DL'ed the game yesterday and tried it a bit last night. So far I'm liking what I'm seeing. As a newbie I of course have a ton of questions but I'll hold off on asking them until after I've read these board and the instructions a bit more.
One quick question though since I haven't tried MP yet. Is there any sort of "official" server or a server most people who post here play on?
Other then that I just wanted to say hello to everyone here.
Hi Vanor, Welcome to the Game and Forum! The official Server is the SW server and depending on time of day and your location different servers have more people on them. You can check who which players are on which Server by right clicking on the Server name!
In Multiplayer you ussualy can get a lot of help from other players and do a lot of fun things together and make friends or enemies whatever you prefer but it is best to make friends first and then decide later about your enemies(Watch out for Romulan thou he attacks new players with out warning and is on everybodies hit list)!LOL:P

MP has a lot of advantages. For one, when I bump into anyone new, I give them a present on behalf of [SD], my clan. Well, not MY clan, but the guys I shoot stuff with. Nevermind.
So yes, in MP we can offer advice, tell you secrets about the place, and we even help out with equipment if things are going too rough. Unlike EVE where they shoot you and leave your chassis on blocks.
Ok, got two questions that I can't find the answer to so far. I'm at work so I can't start the game to see if it says anything there...
On the left panel, where you set the shield level. I know I can use the [ and ] key to change that. But I didn't see anything that really explained what the numbers there mean.
The screen says something like X S / X E where X is the same number on both sides. The tutorial said something about this sets the balance between shield and weapon energy. So I understand the basic idea of more energy to shield means less energy for weapons...
But the actual display doesn't make sense to me. Is there something that goes into more detail about what all the various parts of the HUD means? I saw the image in the instruction page... But it doesn't break down each panel.
Second and this is more of a fluff question... How big of a ship can we get? The starting ship seems to be a relatively small, something I'm guessing on scale with the millenium falcon from Star Wars. Do you ever get anything much bigger then that? Like say a battleship sized ship?
The left panel, when your energy is adjusted is with more power to shields it will show something like -3S/3E (if you notice, the negative indicates you're augmenting energy by sapping power from your shields). As for your second question, I'm not sure, I just kind of tinked around until I understood what was happening....
And as for your third question, all of the ships the player controls are similar in visual size. Nothing the size of a battleship is manned, because you're a lone wolf and can only have a maximum crew of four.
The numbers represent the bias setting, basically a point system for how much power you want to take away from one and give to the other. This section in the strategy guide offers some additional detail on the shield and energy system:
If it jumps around, just let the images finish loading, the click on refresh to re-center the text.
Capital ships are not accessible to pilots in the game, this is a smaller ship simulator. The Leviathan is the largest player flyable ship in the game in terms of size and mass, it has a lot of assembly resources to handle a 5 compartment cargo bay along with high end components. The Predator is the largest military flyable ship and is a heavy strike/attack spacecraft.

For a more precise calculation, each number value represents a percentage offset from 100% for each system. When you have the indicator set to 0/0, you have balanced power between them at 100% for each. When you change the energy setting to -1/1, you have now shifted power by -10% and +10% (-10 toward shield system and +10 toward engine and primary weapon system). Set it to -5/5 and you've shifted power by -50% for shields and +50% for engine/weapons.
Aaaaaaah, cool, now I got it! Thought kinda that it worked that way. The only part I did not know was the engine beeing part of the equation!
Again something new learned!LOL:P
