I'm probably doing something wrong (that's what newbs do afterall)... I just can't jump to a waypoint. Everytime, it makes me fail my objective. Jump near the asteroids... fail. Jump near the solar panels... fail. Over and over again.
Is the game made that way or is it just me?
I'm pretty sure that soon I'll have to go further than 72k, so jumping will be essential, right?
Apart from that, I just LOVE the game... I don't even play WoW anymore.
And how did they make the game so small, it's nothing short of amazing! 144mb O.O

Hello Mastepitepulam, welcome to the forum and the Sim. Let me say that you have more courage than I did to be jumping at the start. I always aimed at the waypoint and used my engines (lol) even tho it took longer. I believe the Sim is setup now to set the waypoint as a jump point at the start so you should be able just hit F2 to jump to the point. Sometimes I will open the nav map and click near the waypoint shown so that I don't land on top of the object or enemy ships. Save your game before you except a mission so that you can reload your profile and not have it affected by a mission failure. Good luck out there. Oh yes, you can sign onto a server that has pilots on at the time and they will try to help you also. :)

Tell me about warping. I activated a jumpdrive and it took me straight through the planet. I was enjoying a fire ball for a few seconds there :).

Do not engage jump drive in the planet atmo or on the planet. You have to land manually on the planet. Not so difficult.

Welcome to the game Mastepitepulam.

Jumping is not that hard once you learn about the Nav Map.

Usually, with contracts, the waypoint is set for you and you just need to press F2.

If you want to go somewhere, rightclick it on your navmap. The yellow Nav-Marker will appear and pressing F2 will take you there.

Pressing ALT+F2 will engage the override mode, and will simply warp you forward the maximum distance possible.

Asteroids might be spread out around the navpoint, so fly around if you can't find those and you believe your general location is correct.

Also, keep an eye on your sY coordinate if you're jumping into nowhere. If that does not equal 0, you are flying off the galactical equatorial plane.

Finally, do not forget to not eat or drink while operating Fulcrum powered machinery, and to always watch out for unexpected planetary surfaces.

Yes, Nav Map and Nav Map Log, very important! Do not forget to save your Important Navigational points in your Nav Map Log. Will save you lot of trouble trying to find an important point to you later on!;)

A couple of other things to think about. When I first started playing I would take cargo missions a jump right into the ship I was supposed to deliver to. Jumping so close I killed myself in the process. Before jumping I usually adjust one of my coordinates by about 500 so I don't jump right into the object I'm jumping to.

Also check your compass heading. This remains the same after a jump as before, so it determines the direction you will be flying after the jump.

IDS vs Inertial is also an important point when jumping. When you jump your speed is very fast, > 4K. If you're set to inertial you keep that speed when you come out of the jump. If you are pointed at a solar array you will probably go splat! If on the other hand you are set for IDS then you will start slowing down to your set speed as soon as you come out of the jump. There are times when you want to keep the speed. For example when I jump into a combat situation I will often jump in inertial mode so that I'm going fast enough to avoid the enemy until I get the lay of the land. I then turn around and use engines to come baack at the enemy..
