Request: Are you Sure - when jettisoning cargo
It would be nice if we didnt not have to reload a last saved game each time we make an accidental mistake:
Like hitting the J instead of the K key to move down.
(hint for new player ALT-F7 for 10 seconds will destroy your ship so you can quickly reload your last saved game)
Can we please have an 'Are you sure' prompt before jettisoning AND left clicking on a cargo item so things dont get accidentally destroyed with such frustrating ease?
And is the concept of selective jettisoning in the pipeline or and I asking too much?
Thanks.
Hmm.. a partial solution might be to re-map the J key to ALT-J or some double-key combination.. but can we re-map the left click on a cargo-bay item?

Well, there is something interesting that can be done in this regard.
Why not create a pod with the content of what is jettisoned?
That would make sense having you leave the material around and this way you or someone else can pick up the discarded items.

Yes, if you hit "j" and jettison your cargo, it dumps it in cargo boxes aft of your ship. All you have to do is turn around and beam it back aboard.
Take note that when you jettison your cargo, it saves the game... so it is generally not a good idea to commit suicide, because the game will reload at the point after you had already lost your cargo... except now the cargo will no longer be there in a box for you to pick up.
I am unsure as to what happened in the aforementioned situation, but it may have something to do with the conflict with saving during a contract
I am reminded of a time when I was fighting the Vonari in Renegades... I was flying backwards and trying to shoot the missiles before they hit me. I accidentally had switched to lasers only, so I reached my little finger over to hit "n" and accidentally hit j. In renegades, cargo containers did not have a gravity field (and when dropped become fixed, immovable objects). Since I was flying backwards, the cargo box appeared right in the center of my flight path so that I promptly ran into it and was brought to a complete stop. I had but a fraction of a second to utter an exclamation of confusion and surprise before 5+ missiles collided with my cockpit. Since the game saves when you jettison your cargo, I respawned with empty cargo bays, adding insult to my already injured pride.
Thanks Vice for adding the gravity fields around the cargo boxes in Legends
Edit: Oops, this post was supposed to go under the other thread about jettisoning cargo.

Now I wonder what would happen in Multiplayer If I'm waiting behind you for you to hit that J again instead of K and I run of with your Cargo full of say Fulcrum torpedos and then you decide to do the Kaboom part! Do we both end up with cargo of fulcrum torpedos? Yours from your last save in the Hangar and mine stolen from you!
Free Fulcrum Torpedos for every one! Darn, there goes my Fulcrum Torpedo Bussiness, I should have kept my mouth shut!LOL:P:P:P

Hitting "J" should initiate an auto save ... so, if Wasp jettisoned cargo and then went boom, he'd end up with an empty cargo bay. Assuming the cargo doesn't automatically disappear when he dies, you'd be the sole owner of his cargo.
Things might work out differently, though, if he were under contract at the time he hit the "J" key.

That is what I ment with the above scenario, when under contract! You can have one player load up on FTs, save while docked at the station before doing contract, then select contract and go to another player and jettison your FTs the other player beams them in and leaves to a safe distance you go kaboom still under contract and wallah, You both have Fulcrum Torpedos!LOL:P:P:P

The most annoying thing that happens to me is taking a delivery contract and jettisoning all my other cargo along with the contract cargo. Its scooped up by the capital ship and off it goes! Can we get it to just jettison your contract cargo in this scenario?

You can store your ship and cargo in a Hangar before doing a Delivery contract and buy a new ship with empty cargo bay's. I know it is still a hassle. I think there is a way to only jettison a particular Cargo bay, but forgot what it was!:P

Speaking of reassigning keys. Do any of you know if it would be possible to reassign "alt-f2" the directional max jump to a single key? Alt-f2 after 50 or so times gets to be a real pain. I want to change it to something easy like right shift. But it seems the "alt" portion is locked in so if I try to make it right shift all it does is changes the standard jump so I still have to hold alt while hitting shift.

Well, if you had a controller like the CH or the Saitek, you could definately do it. I don't know what controller you have, but if you tell me what you're using, I might know a way.

I've actually just been using the keyboard. I don't have any controllers. I haven't had a joystick in years lol.

Then you can't do it unless you have a programmable keyboard. Some keyboards allow for dble key assignments.
But you would already know that if you had such a keyboard.
Btw, my hat's off to you and others who can successfully fly with K&M only! I don't see how you do it!
Good luck...

If you get a joystick, I recommend getting one with a HAT (the little thumb-driven joystick on top similar to game consoles). To avoid things like the jettison sccenario, I put all combat functions on my stick's side buttons and use the HAT for strafing thrusters. Kinda requires you not have stubby thumbs, but works otherwise.

Yeah, but you will get stubby thumbs playing this game to much. So much to straff, shoot, kill, steal, spy, find, tractor, mine, trade, bribe, fight, hide, discover, jump, build, hire, fire, run, explode, paint, handle, .........Aaaaagh!LOL:P:P:POriginally posted by Draakjacht

If you get a "controller" I recommend the Saitek "X" series. They are the most powerful progammable controller in the world!
The current X52 is good, but the X52 Pro is not worth the price, imho.
If you don't like the "twist" method for yaw , then look for a used X45 on Ebay.
If ever you have a question about Saitek, I will gladly help.
Have fun...

Well, I do have a whole slew of other buttons to assign. I just find the HAT a nice compact way to strafe.Yeah, but you will get stubby thumbs playing this game to much. And I actually think playing these games tend to give me longer and longer fingers. Something about stretching my digits while sweat beats on my forehead gives me a good workout. That and I don't think a guy should ever be called stubby. Just wrong.

You don't have to be stubby, to have stubby thumbs, and I do not recall calling any one stubby, I was just talking about stubby thumbs. Stubby thumbs up!Originally posted by DraakjachtWell, I do have a whole slew of other buttons to assign.
