I got the bug to make some ships too. I tried converting some of my ancient 3d models to .x format, but they didn't work. I saved them as frame24.x (avenger?) but in the game I just got what looked like one of the stock engines floating in space. Can someone in the know u2u me some more info on how to do it right?
Here's what I'm playing with today:
I have a whole bunch of ships, trek and not from years working with various game companies. (including a wwi triplane which would be funny in the game)
Here's what my current .x model looks like in 3D PhotoBrowser:
Took me forever to find a program to convert the old autodesk .cel files to bmp's for the textures. Nothing reads that format anymore. I was annoyed the 3dsmax 2009 doesn't support them any more (version 7 did!)
Now I just need to figure out how to get max to import and export .x files directly, instead of having to convert to and from .3ds files and use another app. Is there a plugin somewhere?
ya, been hunting all day. I tried 6 graphics converter programs before I found one that read the cel files and would convert them, and it only worked correctly half the time - the file would look fine loaded, but it saved them as 4 bit or something stupid. I need something that will convert them in a batch - I have thousands of cel files.
Then I had change all the textures in the models to use the bmps- took an hour.
