Multiplayer for ppl new to it

Post by Venus »

For those of you who have not yet dipped into Multiplayer,
I thought I'd drop a post, on what you can expect.

Firstly, it adds so much to the game, it's identical to single player, except you can play alongside others.

Secondly, PvP (person vs person) doesn't happen that often on the main server, but it's simple to ask for PvP, many players are interested in having some fun.

Thirdly, mostly online, it's cooperative environment. ie everyone tends to help everyone else. New players are often surprised to find the level of help that is available, and the lengths some players will go in that.

The sorts of things we do, is contracts or just plain swat the gnats together. Trading is mostly indivual based when you need credits. Rescues are great fun too. Then there's PvP.

So if you are a bit unsure of whether you'll get splat as soon as you come online (I certainly expected it), be assured, it's unlikely, except from some people, but still rare.

So why hang about playing by yourself in single player, when you can make new friends n play with others.

Word of warning... if you are the type that want to discover the universe on your own; learn its secrets yourself, then let people know. Knowing too much too soon, can spoil that aspect (you can never go back n play it afresh :) ). If on the otherhand, you want to know ever lil nook and cranny, then online ppl will help there too. Just ask.

So come join us. :)

[Edit] As an idea... it's interesting online, some of the activities online. Also, how people adhere to the universe story. So I thought I'd offer an idea for another kind of activity we could get up to when bored. lol

How about escort duty/convoys. Mil ships escort Civil ships... there's a whole range of idea that can played out there... very akin to the rescue idea of "leave no men behind".

I just started dipping into online play this week. I didn't get ganked or anything. The worst part was the 2min pause as I went through the keyboard mappings to figure out what button was for chatting. Then someone said "push enter to talk"! :P

That happened to me also the first time I went online in Evochron Renegades DS9 Server. Only the DS9 Server Host was on line at that time, I got all kind of messages and did not know how to respond. So the Sever Host send this Message " Either your the Silent type of player or you do not know how to respond", Long Pause, "Press Enter to Type, Press Enter again to Send" LOL:P:P:P

Just to add to Venus' post, don't feel that you can't join in if you're new. A number of online players lately have been new, some want to join with others, some just want to remain on their own and simply chat with other players while they do their own things.

Multiplayer can be like an instant messaging service while you play, if you want it to be. You don't have to join in with others if you don't want to, you can simply listen/chat with others to get tips or be an observer. Then once you feel comfortable, join in how you want to. The game is freefrom in its design and that carries over into multiplayer, you aren't required to fight other players or even cooperatively join in, you can play the game just like you do in single player. Quite a few players start out this way and it's a recommended option if you're new to the game and just want to see how multiplayer works.

Lately, there has often been around 10 or so players on at a time late afternoon/evening Eastern time, so if you want to check it out with more players, that's a good timeframe. If you want to check it out with just a few players on, try a different time. There have been rescue missions, deep space runs to certain hidden locations, online trades, surprise attacks, arranged PvP matches, and plenty of cooperative contracts.

Even if you just connect to listen in on the action, it's kind of like having an in-game universe newswire going on in the background while you play :) So don't be intimidated by the multiplayer mode, you can sign in or out whenever you want to and play the game however you want to. New players are certainly welcome, generally treated well, and even assisted/protected as requested or needed.
