New Pilot in Evochron

Post by Robert the Robot »

I'm completely new here, so I thought I ought to say Hi!

I bought Evochron Legends last week and have been playing it in single-player mode almost every moment of free time I've had - it's absolutely fantastic! I'm already up to 17million credits (it would be 22mill, but I bought a second ship so that I could have one for mining and exploration, and another for combat:)).

I just wanted to ask a quick question about the EL beacon quest, though. I found the one on Sierra (beacon number 5, I think, I'm starting to lose track of the numbers) which told me to take a fuel converter and look for the next beacon in one of the asteroids near Orion.

Well, I've only found the one asteroid field, located at Sector (-1000, 0, -2400), coordinates (50000, 0, -70000) and I've been cruising around it for a few hours and I can't find the next beacon. I don't want to be told it's coordinates (yet), but I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me whether I'm at least looking in the right region of space?

Many thanks

hi and welcome,

I think your in the right place, but its been a while since I looked, While vice is a great guy, and v.nice and helpful, he's also very devious, it could be in an asteroid, or hidden in some other way.........

Thanks for the quick response!

The beacon on Sierra did say that the next beacon was 'hidden in an asteroid'. I initially expected an asteroid cave system, but when I realised there wasn't one I started blowing up random asteorids but without any luck.

When you say 'hidden in some other way...', do you mean that the beacon could be cloaked by a stealth field? I think I'd better get myself a long range probe (or 25 units of platinum and find a constructor station :))

I think you just have to keep blowing up asteroids till you find it, I remember wasting an hour or so blowing up asteroids trying to find it

Ah, right - I've just spent the last forty minutes trying out the probe idea (which didn't work, though it was fascinating to watch all the ships moving round on radar) and blasting asteroids apart. I still can't find the beacon, and I'd almost swear that each time I blast one asteroid, another one appears - the whole asteroid field never seems to shrink! I even tried a fulcrum torpedo on the field, but the only thing that blew up was my ship!

I'll have another crack at it later on, but if I can't find the beacon I'll have to ask for the proper coordinates (though I'll feel like I'm cheating...)

Lol, yeah, asteroids have an inbuilt resistancy against WMD's.

Welcome to the void, Robert. Freedom awaits.

Asteroids come back between sessions, so you have to get them all at one time without saving and loading. I recall it took me about an hour or so. I think it was in the very last asteroid in the area.

So, a fulcrum torp wouldn't take out the whole mess? That's unfortunate. Those things are expensive.

Thanks for the welcome, guys - I've never had so warm a welocme in any forum I've ever been in! :)

I did find that beacon in the end - I spent an hour blowing up asteroids, although it's a shame I didn't take a "Clear shipping path" contract while I was at it and made a few credits on the side;). I've also found the next one on Deneb, which is directing me towards the Renegade Beacons and Riftspace.

Any idea where the first beacon is? (I did stumble onto one on the planet Sapphire, it said something about the next one being between two planets and "Lost in a sea of blue") Also, what exactly is Riftspace? I remember playing the free edition of the game Riftspace, and found a portal to a hidden world guarded by the Vonari, but the game ended with their defeat. In EL is it a hidden star system like Lost Rucker and Wolf?

I really can't wait to delve deeper into the game (I made about 15 million credits ferrying fulcrum torpedoes from Deneb to Alpha Centauri) but I'm afraid I probably won't appear in multiplayer - while I have internet access, I don't think the computer is capable of running EL. Ho hum...:(

(BTW, you can call me Robbie if you like, but I didn't name myself after the robot in Asimov's "Robbie" (I, Robot), or Robby the Robot from "Forbidden Planet". I'm actually named after Robert the Robot, from Gerry Anderson's Fireball XL5. Lot of Robert's, aren't there :D)
