A question about customizing the HUD/MFD

Post by Noceur »

Hey, first post here.
First of all, I really love the game as it's a mix of Elite/privateer and Orbiter (I really love newtonian flightmodels).
The only problem I have with the game is that I didn't know Legends existed and bought Renegades first. :P

Anyway, in the FAQ/FEATURES for both games there's mention of customizable cockpit/HUD ("New high detail 3D cockpit with tiltable gauges and enhanced structures." -Renegades features).
I was wondering if it's customizable without getting into heavy modding, and if so, how would one go about it?
I looked in the manual/docs and did a quick search in the forum but couldn't find anything except for completely new cockpits (quite fancy ones, I might add).

I'm not a stranger to modding or 3D modelling, but if there's an editor/easy way for it I'd be real happy, since I'm "a bit" lazy. ;)

PS. Is there a way to make mining go faster? Like with a Science officer or better mining/tractor beam? The dough is exceptional in the mining business! :D

Thanks for the quick reply.
Hmm, so I'm guessing I'd have to edit some files after all, hehe.

And yeah, moving the beam around definately seems to increase the transfer speed. I personally like to turn the IDS off and add some vertical or horisontal thrust while mining.

There are a few mods listed in this forum that can help show you what can be done.

Alt+B can toggle the mining beam on so that you don't have to hold down B for mining, moving the beam around slightly does seem to increase transfer speed, and that's about it.

Hehe, I think I'll work on my flying skills some more in SP before I go where eagles dare. ;)
I haven't even touched combat yet.

Also, you can just listen in and observe while in multiplayer, you don't have to head in to battle. You can just play the game like you do in single player while online and keep to yourself until you feel ready to join in with other players.

Combat is %5, chatting and trading %95, especially nowadays...
No no, %2-%98!
