Simple question. When landing at Lamda Station I found a Long Range Probe available, so I bought/equipped it. I also found it in the asteroid cave. My question is, what does it do? I was in a fight and accidently fired it (since you can't select missiles, when I fired a missile, it fired the probe).
Obviously it's meant to be fired, in the same way in Star Trek they use probes. The problem is it gave no feedback. I hadn't noticed I'd fired it until I'd returned to Lambda Stn (still in same sector as probe though different box).
Could someone enlighten me please on how to use this thing?

Probes are designed to give you location information on ships and containers in space... even cloaked ships. You deploy them where you want the center of your search area to be. A range of about 25K is continually scanned until the probe runs out of power. Click on the 'Ping' button on the right side of the nav console to update the nav map with the latest location information. Ships will appear as green, yellow, or red dots depending on their threat level. Containers will appear as purple dots.

Hello Venus, welcome to the forum and the Sim. The probe can be used to find things tho I myself have not used them. Others who have will be of more help so stand by.

I know you could scroll through your missle loadout in renegades, just cant remember the key for it right now.So I'm betting you can do it in legends also.Originally posted by Venus

You can actually select a weapon with the [;] and ['] keys. Note that Probes, Stealth Fields, Missiles & Torpedos are reffered to as "Secondary Weapons".

Ahh thanks guys... great to know... fortunately I can get another one in the cave, if needed. Thanks for key info too. Wicked game... and multiplayer just adds sooooo much more to it.
