Legends Ultimate Spoiler

Post by nschafer »

This is a major spolier for the game, so if you want to find things on your own, don't read any further.

I've created a web page that will allow you to search for anything in the Legends Universe. It will allow you to search by system or item type, and will give you a listing of all of the items you specified in the system you specified with the coordinates to the object. It will also display a very crude map of the system with all objects you requested shown.

I intend to add some search and sorting features and improve the mapping a lot (although I am not a graphics person)

Comments are welcome.

There are quite a few things listed incorrectly as being in riftspace when in fact they're just outside of pearl ;)

Didn't notice the scroll bar... that's why I had to edit ;)

Pretty cool little app though :)

Thanks, I'll check it out. The data is parsed from the universe data file, I'll have to check to see if there was a problem in my parsing code, or if they are listed incorrectly in the universe data file. Were the coordinates of those objects correct?

They're listed in the universe file but they aren't listed as being anywhere in particular. and the coordinates are correct as far as I can remember.

It would help to add the name of the planet, station, etc. to the list, as well as adding the extra 0 to the end of the Posx,y,z so the absolute coordinates match what you'd have to type in to get to things that don't appear on the radar.

Also for gates and wormholes, their destination coordinates would be handy.

I'll add the extra 0 to the position coordinates. The other detail you requested can be found by clicking on the row for the object. Another table will appear to the right with detailed information. I'll see if I can at least add Name / Destination Name for stations and gates to the basic information table.

Thanks for the input.

I think the map would be more useful if it were smaller and had symbols for the objects instead of the colored boxes. The colors are so similar for different objects, I can't tell by looking at one what it is.
Asteroid field, asteroid cave and planet are too close in color, as is gate and wormhole, or station and cstation. If you have to click on it to know what it is, it sorta defeats some of it's usefulness.

Really awesome app though.

Sometimes the script stops responding and I get error messages.

thats very cool!

It's probably not your parser, I get the same results, its probably due to the way you handle the 'local nebula backdrops' in game the name of your location is determined .

When I get some free time ( v. rare atm) I'll write up a little plugin that will use php to create images 'on the fly' might make it a bit more user friendly :)

I noticed that as well. As I have time I am going to verify the data parsed. There are a number of problems I've seen. This particular one must be in my parser since I've gone and validated that the system shows as expected in the data file.

I'll put a change log on the page soon as well as a place for comments and requests. There is a lot of data I would like to add to the site that isn't located in the UniverseData.txt file. For example where to find those hard to find items. What frames are available at a given station, things like that. Some of these I know from my own exploring and I will get more in the system as I explore more, but oddly enough, the more time I spend on this data system, the less time I have to actually play :)

Thanks for all of the comments.

All the information is there, it can be hard figuring out how to interpret it though, Your parser is probably ok, I found I have to 'define' some areas myself after parsing the universe - the local nebula backdrop area doesn't actually name each area - thats handled by the nearest planet.

Wow, that is quite amazing. So, is this a javascript that parses the universe file using the input variables?

No, not javascript, although that would be possible, it is not really well suited to handling database activity. I actually used Visual Foxpro for the actual parsing and then use a combination of asp and javascript to create the web page.

Actually I was parsing the system from the comment at the beginning of each system area.
For example: ' **************************************** Sapphire system

yeah, that only covers a few of the systems, I bypassed that by creating a speerate field in my table and using it as an optional extra...

I'm not a fan of foxpro, though I've used it in the past, but asp and javascript have benefits that php doesn't have, feel free to pm me if you are interested on working on the legaues, I think your knowledge and mine combined could make something cool. ( when I say my, I think its fair to say rami and others would have an input too, verbsleagues depends on more people than just me),

edit
I've sent you a u2u , my parser is pretty advanced now, but I wouldn't be surprised if we both couldn't enhanch each  others code

MagMatthew,

I'm glad you found it usefule. I've worked up a new parsing system that seems to be getting things out of the data file a bit better. It will also be looking at the other data files in the game to try to have more system / ship information available on my system. I envision eventually being able to search to find where you can find not only objects, but also frames, weapons, etc and be able to do a lot of things that you can only do in the shipyard, like design a ship and see how many assembly points it will have, how fast it will go etc...

Doing this in my spare time which comes in spurts, so there are likely to be times where there are a lot of changes to the system and times were it is static for a while.

Can we have all of this information posted somehow, like in a PDF with tables?

(BTW, Sorry for reincarnating an inactive thread)

I meant by a table with every single object, at every single system in a PDF for everyone to access.

The guide doesn't really have that at (although it has a lot of data).
