Q: How does one become Marco Polo or Columbus? [Possible Spoilers in replies]

Post by Exim »

As per topic...

As I read in these "guides/tutorials/stories", I read "hidden planets/stations", so hidden places in general... how does one found them?

and how to use probes? :(

a science officer will help you find hidden containers close by, but for the hidden planets....

well to start with try out the beacon quest, it will give you clues on where to find the next beacon, and if you complete it then you'll have access to some of the best hidden systems!

the first beacon is in sector 0,0,0 where you entered the game. i'm guessing you'll have to re-find that one like i did :)

when your on multi there will probably be someone about who knows where things are. so if you dont mind spoilers then ask away. if you prefer to find em for your self then do the beacon quest.

anyway, general exploring tips. get the biggest fulcrum drive you can, c5 in known space. when heading out into the void put your guns on max energy, aim your ship where you want to go, then keep pressing alt+f2 to jump. re-enter your destination co-ords every now and then to check progress and re-align. also keep the nav map open and zoomed so you can see when you get to your destination. save before you make your final jump, in case you land inside a planet!

I am actually doing the beacon quest... just that some questions come into mind while I am at work... I dont get to play much per day... so I'd like to advance as quickly as I can to get up to speed with most others on MP

all you need then is an 8 hardpoint ship with a pack of excalibers. that gives you enough firepower to hold your own in the warzone. after a bit of time at war you'll have access to the military ships. nice toys can be found in dangerous places like pearl, thats where i got my first set of good upgrades from. the stuff from hidden planets can come later, you wont need that for life in the war zone.

mining in saffire will net you several million, enough to buy a new ship and all the toys on offer in pearl.

if you want a fast track then ask in multi player, people can give you a hand gathering the gear and take you to the hidden planets. just choose how much help you want then ask for it! for real speed we can have you fully kitted out in one night, very heavy on the spoilers that way tho :)

I got myself a mantis drive from one of them unknown planets... still... @ 10 Sector per jump... its still ALOT of jumps... and out in the other systems fuel prices are shockingly expensive!!! where do we find cheap petrol? or is sapphire the cheapest?

ohoh... what other "experimental" stuff are there? dont tell me where to find... i just wanna know what there are... :P

I will try to come on MP as much as I can... but I dont play many hours a day cos I am very busy with work at the moment... maybe in a few weeks tho I will come on more often...

PS: I live in GMT+8

hmm, only experimental stuff i've seen is the mantis drive. but you can max your gear out, class 15 cannon, class 5 laser, and all the other bits and bobs your ship has.

yeah, saffire is the cheapest place for any price. so its a great place to buy cheap then sell high at a hidden planet :)

happy exploring :)

You can use a fuel converter to scoop fuel out of Stars, but I've heard its risky.

try using the fuel converter in a planet's rings instead. that way as you're collecting water you're also filling up the tanks:cool:

I wouldn't say using a Fuel Converter is risky; but it is S L O W ... What they are really good for is making money. You buy them Sapphire for 500 - 600K and sell them in Deneb for 2 - 3 Million.
