Stop shooting me!

Post by ShaggyMoose »

I have a rep of 80% with the Navy in Olympus, yet it seems every time I enter the system, the Navy ships are hostile. I try to do a mission to get them back onside, and while I am on the mission, they continue shooting at me! "Hey, I'm trying to work for you guys over here, give it a rest!".

Well, I got killed and just noticed that after reload, all the Navy ships are now friendly, as I would have expected the first time. Is this a bug?

Also, use the latest build 1.028, which better aligns hostile shift frequencies with reputation levels. You may be using an older build.

Yup, still using 1.018. I figured the updates would be coming thick and fast, so I have been a little lax. Also, I thought most of the changes were multiplayer focussed, sorry.

Using 1.028 now and the same situation is occuring. 80% with the Navy, on a mission for the Navy, getting attacked by Navy ships...?

They may be Navy ships from another system, as each system has it's own Navy, it's possible that they are travelling to your system and are hostile to you. Are there any Navy ships which are green, or are they all red?

How can I tell?

The last time, there were plenty of yellow and green Navy ships hanging around at the station when I took the mission. Then when after I made the jump, I was in the middle of blowing up some Rebel scum when a couple of Navy ships joined the Rebel formation and started kicking my ass! Then after this, some friendly Rebel ships arrived at started wailing on the Navy for me... O_o

It all seems a little inconsistent at best...

There's currently no way to define one system's Navy from another, aside from the hostility or lack of, which is a bit of a pain. It would be nice if the home system of the faction was defined in the info window, is there any chance of that in the future Vice?

Actually, all ships are local as far as I know. That means if you see a Navy ship, its from the local Navy. Ships travelling by will be indicated and align with their local equivalent.

If you have a 'Fair' reputation with an 80% value for Navy ships, that generally means you will encounter 80% friendly or moderate Navy ships and about 20% of them risk being hostile (more accurately established in build 1.028). Now if you transition your reputation to 'Good' overall, the percentages will indicate roughly how many friendly and moderate Navy ships you'll encounter, with few or no hostile ships. There are, of course, exceptions to such parameters, including your actions, what you're carrying, and what kind of contracts you complete and for who, but these measurements can help you gauge what kind of encounters you'll likely have with a particular faction. While Olympus is mostly friendly, you will encounter some Navy allied (not necessarily Navy owned) ships that may be hostile to you for a variety of reasons.

So if I destroy these hostile Navy ships, does my Navy reputation suffer?

If they're already hostile, the impact may be minimal. However, if you're trying to improve your reputation with that faction, consider bribing them instead, which can have a very positive effect on your reputation with a faction. The other option is to ignore them and fly on by.
