I am new here and just purchased game. Trying to complete a contract to destroy 20 asteroids but they simply will not blow up. Guns don't destroy them and since they aren't ships I can't target them and get a missle lock to destroy them with missles. I have shot them hundreds of time with primary weapon on a newbie vessel to no effect.
Also is there a better guild for Legends then the manual?

Hi Steveski, welcome to the forum and the Sim. Try getting so close to the Astroid that you can see the effect your guns have on it and keep firing till it blows up. It will blow up. Good Luck.

Thanks! Will try that. Was keeping my distance as I did not want to run into one and die. Dieing is very easy in this game.

Yeah it is a skill to acquire, being able to burn up to the stones and then gently coast in, until your in beam distance, I would jump in near-ish, turn on IDS, and then half throttle, and crawl towards the stone, until it more or less filled my viewport, firing lasers every now and then till I get a sparkle made on contact, then cut throttle to zero. And empty your weapons capacitors. Watch the pretty blowback. Try and grow some new eyebrows..

Just a small point when you're on an asteroid clearing contract: Don't forget to fill up your cargo bays, preferably with platinum, before you blow up your asteroids. That way you get the contract money, plus the value of the ore in your cargo bays.
If you're close enough to mine, then, you're close enough to blow them up!
Incidentally; if you're doing those contracts in Sapphire, then Rivoch station pays the most for your ore.

I did try mining before blowing up asteroids but nothing ever showed up in my cargo bay. I held the "B" down and panned it back and forth over the asteroid but got nothing so I blew it up. Tried it several times and never ended up with any ore from asteroids. What was I doing wrong?

Steveski, you may not be close enough still. Try bumping into the asteroid (at a slow speed lol) then use your tractor beam.

Approach the asteroid slowly, hit alt B, which keeps your tractor beam on, until you hit "B" again. You'll see the glow of your tractor beam mining the asteroid surface, no glow, you're too far away.Originally posted by Steveski

Another thing on mining: Hit "F3" and it'll show you what your tractor beam is picking up. Once all your bays are full up, discard, left click, on any items that aren't platinum, one at a time. When that bay is full of platinum, do the same to the next one, just one at a time.
When you go back to the station, to flog off your platinum, do as Vice suggested, in another post, instead of left clicking to sell the complete cargo bays' contents, left click, and leave just one, per bay, of platinum, in each. That way, when you go back to mining all your bays will fill up with only platinum - takes about 15/20 mins, unless you're at a mining area in which the asteroids are all pure platinum!!!
