Nav Map Question...

Post by Exim »

Is it possible to drag the nav map while zoomed in?

Because alot of the times, the nav map is not centered on my ship... also sometimes I want to look at something further away from my ship while zoomed in closer and I cant... or I dont know how...

If this isnt possible yet... then can it be added on the next update?

No, there are strict 2d-to-3d math conversion systems and sector parameter dependencies that prevent that kind of manipulation. However, to do what you want, you need to right mouse click on the distant sector you want to zoom in on. That will let you get a magnified view of sectors far away from your position.

I guess this must be a limitation of designing a game which is generated from mathematical formulas?

I must give credit to your cleverness tho... such great game from 100ish MBs

Nav Map Question...

hmm, how about if we feed the map some co-ords in the visible area (limit it to the max range scanners can see when zoomed out to prevent exploring by proxy), would that plug into the math conversion system you have? most frequent need for some sort of panning is when you right click on the wrong place and end up one sector away from the place you wanted. being able to shunt one sector to the side, or just zoom out from the place your looking at (not from where your ship is) would make for a smoother ride.

There are several design conditions and requirements that prevent such an option for the map. Has a lot to do with how the map is built in memory.

Hmm, maybe, interesting idea. I could see something like arrows in each direction at the edge of the map that you let you shift sectors one at a time when zoomed in. That would indeed keep the fixed/centered structure intact while allowing quick movements to nearby sectors. I'll look into this as an option.
