Containers on planets

My nav officer (or science not too sure) tells me there are some containers in a specific direction.

So I head in that direction.. right at a planet.

When I get close to the surface I notice the purple blip (like a jump gate only different meaning) so I head for it.

Turns out its buried under a mound of earth and careful directing my tractor beam directly at the blip enables me retrieve goodies.

Questions:
1) Is this normal for them to be invisible and underground?

2) Like containers in space you can see, if I can around will I find 3 of them?

3) why do I blow up when I get too close instead of bouncing off like I normally do the space containers and the planet surface? (good old 10 shields).

3. In mp, too many pilots crashed to the containers and died. It is good for Mp. You have to adjust your speed to collect it. Awesome for Mp...

3. I've got no clue why that is, but manually moving into the planets surface will destroy you.
