Excalibur Missle pack availability question
Ok..I have tried several times to make it to a high tech system to get me one of these bad boys and I keep getting missles up my afterburners...I figured after I upgraded my to shield5 with shieldbooster5 and my FD5 I could just keep ahead of them..but I just keep getting jumped after I drop out of a jumpgate, before my FD is back online. And there isn't enough countermeasures to get me out of that jam. Any one have a recommendation? If it's a spoiler that's fine..just send it to me via email so as not to ruin it for other pleeb's-----Thanks!!

My usual tactic involves, hitting inertial as the jump happens, then you're going >4k into the sector, if you're swamped with enemies, and they're all just releasing their missiles, then stay inertial, add lots more burner, and add some lateral thrust too, so you in effect veer away from your inertial path, loose countermeasures and if you've still got rockets on your tail, spin round and face them, and use your lasers on them. If I've spun round and lasered for a bit, usually by then my speed has me outrunning most things in the sector, and I can quickly go to NAV and pick another jump point... or I can switch back to IDS and change direction, and set another inertial drive by..

Thanks Spelk, that was the ticket. I was able to get my Excalibur Missle pack, upgrade to Hunter Class hull, and a niffty new Neodynum(or however you spell it) laser. Now I can really do some help at the warfront!

when getting from A to B without slamming into scenery on the way make sure you are flying at pitch and heading zero. when your heading that way stay in inertia and plot your jumps
when your drop out of warp your then perfectly aligned for the next gate/station
and dont worry about the reds, at full 4K speed not even their missiles will catch up.
just do the stuff in station reeeeal fast, thats the only danger point
travel will be safe when u've got zero zero flying sorted.

Hit inertial as you go through the gate and turn 180 while in inertial while you target the station in nav and while your energy charges. Jump to the station and target the next station nearby so you can jump to it immediately after you recharge if the bogies come at you and the station doesn't have what you need. You can bounce to two or three stations before they get to you if you're quick about your business. You can always alt F2 if you get in a jam.

That Excalibur Missle pack really makes a big difference. I racked up 37 new kills in the warzone and completed several contracts in the process. Including taking down an enemy destroyer. I just kept doing inertial flybyes and unloading my missles....shooting down incoming missles, and I got a nice little explosion and some good loot for my trouble!!(thumbs up!)

Sometimes I wonder whether Excals shouldn't be a bit more prone to CM's.

I like the Excalibur...although, I thought it would be more like a device slot that would populate my hardpoints with a normal type of missle.

Seeing that this would enable you to sell those spawned missiles off, then waiting for them to regenerate I don't consider that a good idea. There are missiles out there that are worth 6,5 MCr apiece.Originally posted by tk7223

The basic mechanism behind the excalibur is fine; also, a complete volley won't kill a vonari bomber, let alone a player's ship, so I can't complain about them being to strong. Too cost effective, maybe, but not too strong.

Actually, in many multiplayer sessions, a closely fired excalibur will leave you shieldless. Sure, an Exodus does the same, but that doesn't regenerate and doesn't spam you with 8 missiles (requiring almost 24CM's!)

They are, at least against AI ships, but I know what you mean. I often find that Vonari swarms require a good old fashioned light fight rather than a stand off battle.Originally posted by tha_rami
