Ship Hangars or Templates...
Hangers. Sometimes you want to mine, sometimes you want to fight. Who wants to drive a leviathan down to a planet and up again just to mine stuff? Who wants to take a bug into combat? With hangers you can choose your ship to match your need. I think one big parking garage would be great.

Both would be nice, but to keep with the poll I'll go with Hangers.

What a difficult poll, I want both of them
But in the end I voted for hangar, since I'm a guy that likes to collect stuff and use the right tool for the job. Its one of the things from the X's series I really like.

at the moment i only have a need for two ships, my phoenix and my evoch-c. the main thing i want from either system is the ability to leave my crew and tractor beam in my nix and leave a stealth generator in my evoch-c. as far as i can tell neither system supports the tractor beam/stealth generator swapping, and no mention has been made on crew.
so how about it vice, is there anyway to do that?
oh yeah, and it would be interesting to see time scales for each option. my gut feeling is templates is measured in days or weeks and hanger is measured in weeks or months. in which case going for templates would be nice for now.
maybe there is more need for a storage locker and mess room than a ship hanger?
thanks for looking at this vice and putting up with us voting for the non-existing choice 3

I voted hangar. I also liked the storage locker idea that was mentioned previously.

I don't think it's a hand-holding issue; nobody's suggesting handing out prebuilt ships. It's about cutting out a bit of tedium so you can get back in the action faster.Originally posted by Daedalao
I'm going to say that while the ideas sound good in practice... I don't understand why everyone needs their hand held
You can count me in for a no on both vote![]()

That's why I like these ideas, is because it adds an extra element of strategy imo. With a multi-ship hangar play it would be cool to go to your hangar, that the more you pay for hangar space the more you could have more spots for ships (well not sure if that'd be part of it or not), but storing your stuff is definately an interesting issue for those that have good stuff they want to hold on to. Though I like the template because it's a transferrable blue print of what you like and have decided to keep, allowing it to be freshly built wherever you go! Like many have said, but again the issue of storage. That is something that could make or brake both ideas, though it'd be cool to have both as an option, maybe add some player intervention for shipping routes when your ship cannot hold your stuff, so have it shipped to your storage area to your hangar or something. Could add trade, trust and new mission elements to the game, though nothing too special, there'd have to be more to it in order to make such an idea worth implementing. Just tossing out some thoughts, I like both but I still stick by my vote of blueprints, though I would like to see how these ideas are implemented and wouldn't mind trying out both in different betas or in the same beta.
Looking forward to seeing this grow and improve over time.

Firstly apologies to storm, yours was the first post I could see to quote.Originally posted by Storm
If a player rents a "hanger space", then maybe a "storage locker" should come with it.
I cannot object strongly enough to this, I have already formulated 2 exploits based on storage lockers, while neither is particularly 'strong' storage lockers would provide much faster cash generation.

I believe that is a good thing for beginners too, faster cash generation isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it comes down to how the person wants to play the game. So if it is offered and exploitable, but won't do any severe harm to other players, the game world, or even the overall game experience then I don't see a major cause for concern. To me a locker exploit is no different than mining for oxygen while docked at a planet surface city station. It's there if you wanna go that route but you don't have to. It can be helpful for newer users to attain some funds but not at a rediculous amount.Originally posted by verbosity

Though with storage units there would have to be a limitation or cost per unit, up to 5 units or something similar if storage is allowed. If I downgrade to a smaller class ship per-say and lose enough hardpoints to use my excal's, I'd like to store them instead of going to buy more when I do decide to go with a ship that does have enough hardpoints. That would actually be a cool element of choice. Sure it could be an exploit, but I really don't see how big of a negative impact it would truly have to the overall economy, gameplay or enjoyment of the game, if anything I think it'd be more of a positive element than negative, that is just my opinion though, and keeping that in mind I'm still pretty new to this game and it's universe, but I do like what the OP has for options and I would still like to see at least templates made.
Templates and Storage areas could bring up new missions too, maybe a template transaction or delivery for a new top secret military craft that the rebels are after. Templates could be saved as a category of use, i.e. combat, mining/transport, support, etc., and could possibly be shared or traded between active players and it could turn out to be a very good thing. I could see a lot of good come of this, and while I do agree there will be exploits, if it's something that is limited to a value amount or storage amount, it's controllable and won't affect those who've played longer to get to where they're at. Plus with the great community here, really I don't see any issues either way!
