New Idea...Crews

Ok..here's an idea..should be simple I think. I saw some discussion about getting more usefulness from crew members but not really much on how to. So..here's my simple idea. Put a (report) button by each crew members name in the crew status window. Then when you want to know updated info, such as what direction that container was, or how long repairs will take while you sit in a nebula..you could ask the Science Officer, or Engineer. I think all the information is prob. already in gamecode(?) and this would just be a way to access it on demand. Anyone think this is worth Vice looking at-Please chime in. Or if you've got a better idea or that this would be useless. I've done a search for crew usage and looked at the instructions from the latest test build, so If this is already ingame..school me again and let me know how to better my bridgecrew usage :) Thanks Evochronites!! :D

This idea was talked about a looong time ago. don't remember when or what thread, but it was decided that crew management wasn't part of the game.
Mybe this game will be different, but I doubt it.

I think the conclusion was that while crew was a good idea, they should act as if extra pieces of equipment requiring minimal, but definitely some simple looking after.

Hmmmm....Well...I thought of this cuz I wanted to go look for a container that my crew told me about. But by the time I concluded combat the only way I could find to get a 'report' again was to exit/re-enter the system again. I thought what a drag...there should be a better way to communicate with my crew. Also, It would be another reason to have a 'civilian' ship over a 'military' fighter. But if i'm the only one that thinks this would be useful, then it's not worth Vice's time/effort.

if u reenter from 3 diff positions you can triangulate exactly where the container is.

Also, using ALT+/ (default, I think), you can recall earlier messages :).

Yes, the (global) messaging systems records those events and as Rami points out, you can access old messages using Alt-numpad /

Actually, no more than two jumps are needed to "triangulate" the position. The third leg of the triangle is formed by the path between the two positions used, this is where the term comes from.

Geometrically speaking, the cargo will be at the intersection of those two lines. Another line is not needed to further define this intersection.

See, high school geometry still has it's uses, eh?

Just so you know. ;)

I'd like to see some capital ships that can be player owned, where you hire crew and require them to operate the whole ship, based on their individual stats. From weapon damage and accuracy, to navigation accuracy. Total Star Trek experience from the captain's chair when flying a behemoth! :D

I do like the idea that crew could be injured or killed during combat, though. I've always loved having to limp home with warning lights blinking, radar non-functional, jump drive unpredictable etc. It all adds to the feeling of danger, and the fear you might be jumped on again before you can get to safety.

Do you have a medical officer available now? I haven't seen one, but obviously they could be responsible for the recovery of injured crew until you get to a station with a proper medical facility.

If the damage would be so high that someone could get injured, that implies enough structural damage to a small craft like this that it would probably explode. I can assure you that in that event, the crew is injured (fatally).

I do like the idea of keeping notices from crew members in an easily accessible area. Having capital ships would be awesome but I don't see that as the sort of thing you add in a patch, personally.

Not to keen on killable employees I am - A hard time finding a decent navigator I had, yes, and walk out on me she did at the next station, despite paying a 500 credit bonus and having a loyalty of 92. So now in the mood for singing the blues in a space bar I am. Imagining to lose them after a stray missile introduces itself into my stern I do not want, since quite a frequent occurence in Evochron space they are, yeees. Not so frequent is finding good personnel in the space bars I frequent.

But yeah, getting more information from them would be swell.

:P

My problem is that I spend too much time paying attention to my Science officer!
