Newbie Questions
Greetings pilots,
im currently playing the demo version of the game and i`m thinking about buying the game, however i`ve got some questions. I`ve already played eve-online and i disliked the huge time effort for skill training there.
1.) is there some similar kind skill training needed in this game that takes a lot of time?
2.) when was the game released and what about the long-term-fun-factor?
3.) what is the main aim of the game apart from getting richer and building a good and strong ship? are there clans+clanwars, is there a main story to be followed?
4.) i would like to play the game online with other people, how can you interact, is there a chat possibility like in eve online?
5.) do i need to pay for the game once or every month etc.?
thanks for your answers

As a new player myself, I'll try and answer your questions as best I can...
Heres hoping you enjoy the demo enough to buy the game and join this community.
The only skill training you need, are your piloting skills as in an action game - but with a lot more newtonian physics involved. There are no "RPG-like" progression elements to the game as such.Originally posted by Minorex
1.) is there some similar kind skill training needed in this game that takes a lot of time?
Evochron Legends has only been out but a few days, however there is a large back catalogue of games that have inspired and been part of the evolution that is the Evochron series.Originally posted by Minorex
2.) when was the game released and what about the long-term-fun-factor?
The main thrust of the game, is your participation in a war, but you can play however you like, be a miner, a trader, a combat merc, a military pilot. Since you can play seemlessly online as you can offline, there are clans, and they do take part in PvP matches, in fact Verbosity runs a dynamic server for league purposes.Originally posted by Minorex
3.) what is the main aim of the game apart from getting richer and building a good and strong ship? are there clans+clanwars, is there a main story to be followed?
There is chat on the servers, this game isn't massive multiplayer though, as each dedicated server will only host 32 players max. But you can certainly communicate with the players on the server, and fly with them, or fly against them.Originally posted by Minorex
4.) i would like to play the game online with other people, how can you interact, is there a chat possibility like in eve online?
No, its a one off payment for the game, and the multiplayer aspects of the game isn't based on a subscription model. Essentially you can play the single player game, or play on the multiplayer dedicated servers that people are hosting. And the only cost is the very reasonable price of the game.Originally posted by Minorex
5.) do i need to pay for the game once or every month etc.?

Hi Minorex, welcome to the forum. If you have not tried the demo yet you should. You will like the Sim if you try it. You have to buy the game to play on-line but the demo will show you the basics. Hope to see on-line (MP) in the future.

Uh, fella's, You forgot to add that experience has shown that there will likely be many "updates" as the game progresses and all updates are free!
That the author, Vice, actually answers questions quickly, offers free technical support, treats every person with respect, and gladly listens to any & all ideas offered by the forum and if good, he will implememnt them.
There is no other "indie" game anywhere that offers this kind of support direct from the author!
You can't go wrong by buying this game.

Hi Minorex and welcome. I wanted to offer some answers as well:
I don't consider the training to be high on time demand. In fact, enough of this kind of feedback has come in that I have tried to keep the training as basic as possible, yet still convey enough information to help get you started. There is plenty you'll need to learn as you get deeper into the game, the training is designed to give you the basics necessary to get started without hitting you with too much information as to discourage or overwhelm. It obviously can't be perfect for every player, it's too short/simple for some, too long/complex for others, but if you do run into a situation where you want more information on a topic, feel free to post here on the forum or refer to the instructions. And if you don't need/want to cover an area of training, you can skip it with the enter key (alt-enter recalls previous training sections).1.) is there some similar kind skill training needed in this game that takes a lot of time?
Last Wednesday/Thursday. For long term gameplay, the dynamic design of certain aspects of the game help to keep things changing and different, even at the same locations. How you are treated, how you are paid, what you are offered, and how much things cost fluctuate based on how you progress in the game and what kinds of reputations you establish. Economies even fluctuate and have shifting inventories, so what was a good deal last week might not even be available this week and vice versa.2.) when was the game released and what about the long-term-fun-factor?
There are several sub-plots, including an ongoing war with Vonari in the 'northern' territories of Talison and Cerulean, a beacon quest involving one brother's search for answer to the disappearance of the other, and online options involving PvE, PvP/clan type scenarios (you can also link with another clan if objectives/reputations need to change).3.) what is the main aim of the game apart from getting richer and building a good and strong ship? are there clans+clanwars, is there a main story to be followed?
Text chat is available, you can also trade in open space with other players, link for cooperative contracts, race, explore, etc, etc.4.) i would like to play the game online with other people, how can you interact, is there a chat possibility like in eve online?
Once you buy the game, you don't have to pay anything else to use multiplayer. It's not a MMO.5.) do i need to pay for the game once or every month etc.?

I got a question: Last night I found me a big rock, around Arrvoch Prime, with a hole in it. Being curious, I stuck me nose in it, well, me ships' nose.
Inside, I found a sparkly thing, very pretty. It looked like some sort of jump gate, yet, I couldn't use it, it kept repelling me. The nearest I got to it was 754ft, or whatever the distance measurements are. Is it just a pretty ornament, or does it have some use? Do you need a particular ship, or carry something in particular to use it, or, is it part of the beacon project, where you have to find the previous one before the next will react to you?

I believe that's a part of the verbball game...(MP CTF mode).
I'm busy pacifying pearl to get a decent peek at that without dozens of bandits jumping me; there's supposedly another component out there - I believe you found the receiver. There must be a sender around pearl, too.

Cheers mate. Anyway, now you know where the receiver is. Yeah, there are a mob of bandits in Pearl. I just hit the afterburners, get away from the sods. Get about 5k from them, cut the engine, put on the int, and wait for them to come into missile range, let go the 7 barrel job, and back on the afterburners for another 30 secs. Takes a while, but it eventually thins them down enough for some gun action, and, it boosts up your killing score.

The sparky thing actually should be the energy pod. Use the mining pod to catch it, then bring it to the receiving end. This will yield you 20 fuel, or in multiplayer a CTF-point.

The quadrant map is probably the easiest way to tell. It displays the 'sector' coordinates of the charted systems in the game universe. Just line up their location on the player list with the coordinates of the system that matches. The center of the Evochron quadrant is sector 0,0,0. Inside each sector cube are the local coordinates.
For inside sector coordinates:
The game's universe is divided into cube sections called sectors. Each sector consists of 200,000 units of width, height, and depth using X, Y, and Z values as coordinates inside each sector. The center of each sector box is 0,0,0 XYZ, left of center will be -X,0,0, right of center will be +X,0,0. Up from center on the map will be 0,0,+Z, down from center will be 0,0,-Z. So the far left of the sector will be at X -100000 and the far right of the sector will be at X 100000 (200,000 units total with a range of 0 to -/+100,000 units in any direction from coordinates 0,0,0). The Y coordinate is the 'height' position and you can adjust that with the REAR VIEW option. When the TOP VIEW is displayed, a green arrow will indicate your current position in the sector box and it will point in the direction you are heading. Your direction is displayed on the compass at the top of the screen. 0, or virtual 'North', is moving forward/positive on the Z axis. 180 is moving backwards/negative on the Z axis. 90 and 270 are negative and positive on the X axis respectively. Pitch determines your direction on the Y axis, below 0 is negative, above is positive. Pitch is indicated by the ladder displayed with the gunsight in the middle of the screen.
