How to Land on Large Planet Cities?

Post by marcuso »

Hi all,

I own Renegades and played it on and off for a few weeks, but I was never an expert by any means. In fact, I never really landed on planets often...I mainly stuck to space/stations. However, I am aware of how to land on planets - please note that I am not asking how to do that in this post.

I'm actually having a lot of trouble finding a city on large planets (so far I've looked in Sapphire and Glacia). I've tried approaching the planet from multiple angles and the landing guides always point to a weird location, seemingly parallel to the planet's atmosphere. I guess I'm way off (or maybe the planet doesn't even have a city and the landing guides are toying with my sanity).

Anyway, I was hoping someone could please help me by explaining how to find and land in cities on large planets. Do you have to hunt around on the planet's surface and find them manually? Is there a handy way of auto-mapping the cities, much like a station? Do large planets even have cities?

Thanks for the help!

When the guides turn from red to green, you should be on a good approach to land at a city :) And if there isn't a [+] sign on the planet in the nav console, there aren't planets, but I can assure you that Sapphire and Glacia both have at least one city :)

If the guides are red, it's taking you to a better approach vector

The landing guide indicates the safest path. Usually, it'll send you back into space before taking you back into the atmosphere. The landing guide always shows the general direction in which the city is. If you'd follow it by aiming at the most distant guiding point all the time, you'd end up at the city - even though it will take you into higher atmospheric portions first. As soon as it turns green, you're inside descending range.

As additional tip, on planets on the map, you'll see a very small green plus at the location of the city.

I was having similar issues with this. I solved the problem by plotting a jump point directly above the city, jumping in, then pointing the nose straight down and ignoring the approach indicator. Very soon a blinking white light becomes visible on the planet surface; that's the dock. So I aim for the dock and just forget about the goofy behavior of the approach indicator.

I\'m just a weather balloon. And some swamp gas... uhh... refracted the light of Venus or something.
Yeah, that\'s it. Definitely not a spaceship, no sir.

What's the difference between the regular plus signs and the plus sign inside a square? Every planet I've seen so far that has a plus sign always has 3, 1 in a square, and 2 normal ones.

Those are colonies that do not have a docking pad. Sometimes, they're nearby interesting spots on planetary surfaces.

There is more than one city on some planets and the landing approach indicator only points to the main one so your white blinking dot is a secondary city from what I've seen. :)

Plus icon without the box indicate other colonial cities (you can dock with those also). The icon with the box is the capital city of the planet, the largest population center and main trade hub.
