Evochron Renegades is a game I want to like, but so far I find the demo very frustrating. I went through the tutorial, and it all seemed to make sense, so I launched. Here's how it went.
I docked with the space station and accepted a contract. I was to fly to a waypoint, find some object, eyeball it, and return. I left the space station, pulled up the nav console, flew to the waypoint, and... nothing. There's nothing there to find. I flew around for a good five or ten minutes, but I couldn't find anything.
So I figured I'd start a new game. I docked with the space station and accepted a contract. I was to fly to a waypoint and deliver some cargo to a ship there. I left the space station, pulled up the nav console, flew to the waypoint, and promptly crashed into the ship there as soon as I dropped out of "warp". Thankfully I wasn't destroyed, and after fighting the controls for a few minutes (and bouncing off the ship multiple times), I was able to open the trade panel and traded the contents of my inventory. Then I flew back to the space station, thinking I would get a reward, and the contract wasn't completed. Apparently, the ship at the waypoint wasn't the right ship? Or giving it the cargo in my hold wasn't right?
So I figured I would start a new game and try yet again. I docked with the space station and accepted a contract. I was to fly to a waypoint, find some object, eyeball it, and return. Familiar, right? I left the space station, pulled up the nav console, flew to the waypoint, and... AGAIN NOTHING. There's nothing there to find. I flew around for a good five or ten minutes, but I couldn't find anything.
So now I'm almost out of time with the demo and so far I've found it nothing but frustrating. It seems like the game ought to be fun, but I apparently can't complete a single contract. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

For the search contract, you're missing the purple blip on the 3D radar which when in range, will point you to the way of the object. For delivery contracts, you missed the jettison option (J key) and may have sent the cargo to a small ship nearby that you were targeting instead of the capital ship (or tried to trade it to the ship instead of just deliverying it to them with the jettison option).
Reset the timer by uninstalling the game, delete the installation folder (default \\sw3dg\\EvochronRenegades), then reinstall the game. Try another 90 minutes from scratch, just a few more steps and I'm confident you'll be mastering the basics soon. Optionally, you can also stay in the training mode, ignore the training directives, and just practice with the controls and ship systems for as long as you like without a time limit.
Edit: Oh, I also recommend going through the 'Gameplay & Menus' section of the instructions as that can help a lot.

Vice, it actually makes good sense to forbid trading with carriers that are part of a delivery contract.

At the beginning, it comes little difficult to learn something but with little practice, you will find the game flawless!!! You will like to play this game, I am sure...

I didn't have any luck with my first delivery mission either. I found the ship alright, but obviously didn't deposit the cargo in the correct spot... they wouldn't pick it up, and I got fined. I haven't tried since I purchased the game license. Mining is SO much more profitable than the beginning deliveries, I decided they can shuffle their own junk around, I've got diamonds to dig!

Well, I'm glad you found something rewarding to do. But mind you, there are a lot more profitable things to do than blast away at rocks!
The game may seem daunting at first, but once you get the hang of it, it will all make sence!
Have fun & learn.

Wow, learn something new everyday. I was having the same problem with the delivery missions. I would jump to the location but then wouldn't know who to trade with or what ship was meant to give it to.
Does anyone else think it would be a great twist if an NPC ship stole the cargo and you then get a new mission contracting you to hunt down the thief?
Oh and Welcome Phil! Looking forward to seeing you around.

Don't feel bad, flying in the traning mission heading to space station that I never did find, made coffee and drank half the pot, decided to start single player and found the space station. Crashed into planet and some big ship, oh well. It's kinda fun when you learn things in panic mode. By the way, Hello to everyone.

Thats how I started flying ( wayyy back in evochron), straight into it without any training mode, I blew up soo many times - and that was back before crew, before right-clicking on the nav and soo many modern luxeries. 'sigh' i remember the first time i found that crate in Olympus and thought "hey i can make some cash of that"
But thats part of the game, Even now in Legends there are still challenges, I'm still struggling to 'stand and fight' for any length of time in thuban, in a few days I'll manage to stay alive, then I'll be onto the next challange..........

I like the feel of this forum, it seems more 'adult', laidback. I'll be seeing all in MP when I figure out how not to wreck everytime I fire this game up and kudos to whoever "wrote" this game.

Ron, multiplayer is actually a good forum to ask questions. Especially when anyone with a [SW] or [NS] tag is around. Just remember when logging into multiplayer to right click on the server you want to enter to see who all is online. The two most populous for Legends seem to be [SW] Main and Slammers24/7. The most popular for Renegades is DS9.
Couple of quick hints, everytime you turn, strafe into the turn. Try not to keep your IDS on when travelling, it's a waste of fuel. When entering a planet however, turn it back on! Shield manipulation can keep you alive if you enter atmo at >4k. Increase power to your shield array before your jump and add power to the forward shield (num5).

Thanks, I'll get the handle on it. I used to play Freelancer in MP just got bored with the mood swings and such. See you all down the road(?) or lack of one.
