Dynamic server beta, and 'tags'


The dynamic server is now operational and in what im joking calling beta, the server is functional for all users, and stats will be recorded. The server is currently named DTESTX where is is a number, though it will be shortly renamed verbsleagues.

At this point there is no need to login or download and custom universe stuff, this will start to happen in the next few days, I expect the 'dynamic universe' to be fully active within a week


One thing to note is that I'm going to use 'tagging', a pilot can 'tag' an area they have interests in. This shows that they are taking part in activities in that area, this will effect rep and economy values. both effects are quite smal and will really only have an effect over time or with several pilots in a clan acting together. The effect will be less than that of PvP scores which will make up the majority of the effect on the universe.

to avoid 'spamming' and other abuses tags are limited to one registered per 10 minutes, and there will be a limit to the daily effect a pilot can have.

To tag a sector simply call up your nav screen and hit the 'trans pos' button.

I'm not going to disclose exact details of the system ( does anyone know exactly how the rep system works? ), but there are some general rules:

1. lots of inter clan PvP in an area creates an negative economic effect on an area
2. tagging in a conflict zone effects the outcome of the conflict in that zone.
3. tagging closer to a planet has a greater economic effect on that planet
4. tagging in a clan held area will either increase the economy ( if its your clan) or decrease it ( if its an opposing clan), clans can make 'economic statements' to reverse this.

Since I've changed the parsing system users can now user {} and () as well as [] for identifying themselves in a non-clan way, though i've not thought about a use for this ( factions would be cool but there is no way for me to effect this in-game )

Despite having an update under 250, I constantly am being disconnected from your server. I have registered and am logged in via verbsleagues.co.uk... so...

Hi Verb....One question concerning the download of the custom universe data : Does this mean we will only be able to log into your server and no other Legend server?. I assume that is right and if someone wanted to join a different Legend server they would have to download the game again to get the original universe data file to match the other Legends server ?

your right in the point that my universe will be unique to the dynamic server, Rami has buit an app that will not only grab the right and most current universe for my server, but will also replace it with the original at the click of a button.

I'm also looking into having the original universe available as a download.

My application will backup the original file, then restore it after you start the game the next time :) - so you'll be able to play on any server :).

Australian bushfires notwithstanding,

The dynamic universe beta should be running, from some point late tomorrow.
please note :

1. players will need to register and use ramis launcher ( which will be available for download), to be able to play.
There will be a download available for those that don't wish to login, but pilots not loging in will not affect the universe

2. at first there will not be many differences in the universe, during the beta some changes may be reversed
3.the website is rather empty of user features, these are a lower priority than the actual server itself, more features will be added during the beta
4. currently clans are 'static', during the beta the dynamic clan system will be put in place, pilots will have to apply to join a clan.

ok I've finished the parsing system to include the 'tags'

Please note for the moment they only apply to pilots who 'tag' while docked ( at stations, planest, carriers etc).

the universe creation system will be up in the next few hours, once thats been tested the server will be considered 'dynamic', at that point I'll release the url to Ramis launcher with instructions.

there will still be a day or so from this point where the universe will be the standard universe, but I would advise pilots who have registered to use rami's launcher, since it'll help the beta along, and since without using it there is a good chance your kills/tags wont be recorded.

well the system is nearing completion now, Were hoping to be ready to 'go' dynamic sometime this week. once this happens you will need to use ramis launcher before joining,

Please note that stats are currently being recorded, so get going with your PvP kills and tags.

remember currently tags are only recorded if you are 'docked' at a station Cstation,carrier or planet.

The user page now includes a news input module for suggesting news, and the clan admin page should be up later today. Most of the dynamic server system is 'backend' so the webpage hasn't had much development, but I'll be focusing on that more in the coming weeks.

I've got a few tests that I need to run, so if any clanned pilot wants to jump on today and kill me a few times they are welcome to,

got a few other tests that simply require pilots to join.

as I've said above the whole thing is almost finished now, its just the last touches on the 'game engine' and universe building process.....

can I chime in with a stupid question?

I am intrigued about this "dynamic" stuff.

What exactly is it that you are trying to do? What will the end result be of having this dynamic system? Is there a web page to read about or...?

Basically, a server in which there are working multiplayer reputations, clan-based reputations, an evolving story about the Vonari assault and a way for clans to have a main base/carrier.

yeah, www.verbsleagues.co.uk/dynamic

its a project which takes data recorded from the game ( mostly PvP kills and trans pos statments, but we're working in developing this), interprets it and 'adjusts the universe in accordance.

for instance:
if a clan has more kills in a sector they 'own' if and it becomes less hostile to them
if another clan 'owns a sector its more hostile ( if possible) to other clans
lots of clan PvP disrupts the economy in an area and thus reduces the economy value for the nearest planet
pilots who like an area can 'tag' it ( using the transpos button) this has a minor effect on economy and rep in that area


these can all be done without invalidating the universe for different servers but there are other things being done, for instance:
clans have a hidden station for their own use, not hidden to them but it is to everyone else
clans also have a carrier for their own use

Rami has developed a cool launcher which will swap the universe from standard to dynamic to make it easy for pilots too, once we've beta'd this and are happy with it, the server will start its dynamic beta phase.

We've also been developing an ongoing storyline which follows the vonari war, with pilots actions determining what happens in the story.
Lastly I'm developing a system that would give planets, stations and some other objects 'orbits' - this wont be in the dynamic server itself, but MM is quite interested in testing this on his own Renegades server.

the dynamic server system will also do the standard reporting of CvC and PvP kills for the league tables ( www.verbleagues.co.uk/legends )

oh I should have mentioned, that all the verbsleagues stuff is available to any server that wishes to use it, in some cases there is no need to install anything!

Now I'm sitting here trying thinking how this could be worked into other things apart from clans. I'm sure you guys have as well.

well the dynamic universe requires pilots to register/login, but yeah I'd rather share my stuff. I want MP to be as good as it can be,

once the beta is over unclanned pilots will also have have an effect on the system, but less so ( for instance a clan of 10 pilots should have 10 times the efect of a single pilot).

for storylines unclanned pilots and clanned pilots will be treated the same.

Though feel free to suggest anything you want to, if I think its cool ( sometimes i post polls on the subjects if i'm unsure) and I think I can do it, then I'll do it ;)

just a quick note,

I've pretty much finished the basic system ready for beta testing, so beta testing will start as soon as Rami is happy to release his launcher.

If you've registered you'll be able to use some additional pages in verbleagues depending on your user level, and additional functionality will be built up over the beta period.
