Are there mining missions in EL?

It seems mining the asteroids in a sector of space under a mission would be a good way of adjusting your rep with the local miners guild. Could be profit for mining missions is less but at least your ratings climb.

Same for fuel scoops and energy companies, take a mission to scoop fuel for them, then on mission complete you auto sell it to them for less but earn pols at the same time?

In the freeform system, yes, but not contractually. Mining is considered a 'free'/'open' activity for mercenaries, not regulated by the guild for contracts. So you establish your own mining goals whenever and wherever. And in the new game, there are a lot of new options for mining for both locations and materials.

I would guess the opposite would be true. If you mine and take what you mine to be sold, you are essentially competing with the miners for what they do. You are taking the profits for your work, profits they would normally acquire for their mining services. However, in the game, mining is viewed as a fairly independent activity with enough resources to go around, so it's not really a penalty or benefit for reputations, rather, more of a market effecting activity (that can effect the values of the materials you mine). Contractual agreements and ship-to-ship actions are what primarily effect your reputation.
