I'll be running the dedicated sewrver program, While this will quite possibly mean I wont be able to play, it would be good to get a connection.

Would I be right in assuming that the logs will be similar to Renegades?

It works very much like Renegades, the instructions include details on the few differences. Logs use the same text file system.

I'm going to be running this as much as possible, though I'm having issues getting it past my router, so I wont be running it 24/7. more than likely it'll be around 10-11pm GMT through to around 6pm GMT daily. ( my wife needs wifi to do her homework ( those darn cakes!).

I've managed to regain access to the web server for verbsleagues, and all the old code is still there, so a few modifications should make it work for both games ( and multiple servers).
I might need to have a quiet word with you in regards to the serverlists and player lists ( since the servers now send the information off anyway it could mean that the leagues could support all active servers without them having to install anything :cool: ).

semi unrelated question(s).

Renegades had a feature to add your own news to the news console, does this feature also exist in Legends, and if so how should the file be named, and what sort of syntax does it have?

Legends also has system information, but this does not come from the universe file, is there a way to 'mod' this?

The servers now have attached universe files, I guess that they are referenced when the server starts up, is there a way to trigger this to be checked again or will it require a restart?

Lastly, would it be possible for more information to be passed into the chatlog ( contracts fullfilled, FT's exploding etc)?

I'll be running a server sometime in the next few days to start testing my dynamic universe, don't expect it to be big ( so far I've only inputted sapphire into the DB), but if it all goes well, hopefully I'll have most of the universe in place by the time the game is released.

Yes, news8.txt. Text file, try to keep each line within about 100 characters and no more than about 4 or 5 lines.

Yes, the systemdata.dat file.
The servers now have attached universe files, I guess that they are referenced when the server starts up, is there a way to trigger this to be checked again or will it require a restart?
It can update its check during run time without having to restart, iirc. It rechecks the file size each time a new player joins.

Probably, although not before launch time and afterwards for a while as that will be what I am primarily focused on.

Probably, although not before launch time and afterwards for a while as that will be what I am primarily focused on.
Wouldn't expect anything else ;) , I'd like to see that the system I'm building will even work, plus I'll be building in an extra couple of checks to the parsing, but the dynamic universe is somewhat limited by the fact the only feedback is PvP and location transmissions.

err different thread (I can't find the one this used to be on)..............

Registrations are now active for the dynamic server, you can't do anything yet, so think of it as pre-registration.

This will allow further development of the dynamic server and help bug test. as it stands the server is on track for being active on launche date.

Think of this as an application to beta, not everyone will be admitted, if your are not, please do not take offense to this, there will be a limited number of slots, and quite a few of them have requirements.

one last admission, I've not built my verification systems yet, the second I see this being abused it'll be turned off...

could anyone who has already pre-registered test the login syste on the homepage? in theory once logged in you should stay logged in throughout the whole site, in practice however there are different active systems in the legends and renegades directories - I'll be converting these over later today.

Is it possible to show the sector the pilot is in, in the playerlist as well ?

File updates, especially on Vista, delay operation a lot, so I try to minimize those. If I added it to the playerlist, it would only be accurate when a player joins or quits, it's not updated during normal operation. However a player's location is already logged in the chatlog when they join and is updated any time a destruction/respawning event occurs that triggers a message with sector coordinates.

lol good point! I only suggested it snce i thought it might be an easy option due to a discussion we'd had....

The location is only recorded at the respawn, and therefore isn't much use because it only going to be where they last saved from, even if destruction had the location too im not sure it would be much use (if anyone can think of a good use for these let me know).

At the moment I'm considering a 'tagging' system, pilots would hit "trans pos" in systems they are interested in, and to aviod spamming would be restricted to a fixed amount of influence per hour (and day). Rami is kinda aganst this ( and I can see his pov on the subject ), but at he moment its one of the best tools that I can use in the system.
