Sweet!
Not likely, as long as players are interested in playing it, there will still be online activity (and obviously offline). That will probably remain the case for quite a while.Just a daft newbie question; Legends looks cool, I'll go for it, but, what about ER, is that going to be chucked to the side?
Gate positions generally follow the direction to each solar system. Pull up the quadrant map and you can see the directions toward each system. Fly in that direction and you'll usually find the gate that leads to the system in that direction. As a newbie, I'm just finding my way around ER, and trying to find out where everyone is in MP - I can get their sector co-ordinates, but, without knowing what sector they are in, I'm lost! More on-line information needed, imho - like a full screen nav map, a symbol direction for which way to jump to another system.
ER is not going to just drop from the website when EL launches and there still seems to be a lot of people interested in playing it. The 'rules' and gameplay for each game are significantly different as are the system requirements, so some players may prefer one or the other depending on their gameplay preferences and what kind of system configuration they have (for example, EL's updated graphics to better take advantage of what their system is capable of). Some may enjoy both. The existance of EL just means another optional game for those interested in the unique features and options it offers.I would have liked to see Legends come in as an upgrade to ER, rather than as a separate game - I wouldn't mind paying for such an upgrade, just that I wouldn't like to see ER just vanish, it doesn't deserve that.
Nah, I'm pretty sure the same kinds of concerns are raised with other sequels among their userbases. For example, Quake 1, 2, 3, then 4, Halo 1, 2, then 3, etc. I think ER will continue to recover its upkeep and development costs for quite a while and there will continue to be interested players.Maybe I'm just being a pendatic old bugger!

Download the online Strategy Guide onto your hard drive.
http://www.starwraith.com/evochronreneg ... rguide.htm
... as an .MHT file (that MIGHT just be a Vista thing, I dunno, I went from WinME to Vista and skipped XP, long story).
Or, you don't need to copy to your hard drive, but copy certain pictures...
(a) the Evochron Sector Map
(b) the Evochron Charted Systems Detail Map.
For the charted systems, I THINK I found a more hi-rez version someplace (I don't remember where though) (I think there is a URL to it buried somewhere here in the forum).
I printed these two maps. For the sector map, I wrote in coords for certain hidden locations.
From the second one, Charted Systems Details, in a paint application I made two copies ... one for just the "northern" systems, and one for the southern systems ... enlarged them and printed them. By now they are FULL of notes that I have penciled in along the edges. The detail maps can help derive other player coords.
I have these maps along w/ some text docs stapled together. Very handy.

Ravenfeeder, I've flown with you, and my way for finding other players in MP involves looking at the nav console, and seeing what points of interest there are in the system we're in. And I'll fly to those points of interest one by one.

Dock at a station, call up your nav console (F1) and hit 'transmit pos' . your location will be broadcast to all the other pilots, and they can then come to you if they want

Yes that is the best way to join someone....when you see the nav coordinates manually input them and if you are in range then jump to them. If you are out of range fly to the system they are in using the jump gates then input the nav position again...but you might want to ask for another "transmit your position" again to get an update of their current position....Originally posted by verbosity
